What is the proper Procedure to do a compression test?

What are acceptable readings?

If they are low, do you just install new rings?
 

How I do it and I may get corrected, is three good pulls with the throttle open. Also many compression testers give different numbers. But if you have 120 lbs on every cylinder you should be good. And I would say if your miles aren't crazy high just replacing rings will be fine. Rings and gaskets are a cheap top end rebuild and will work fine.
