Foam around air box inlets

In some photos of others engine bays, I am seeing foam around the air box inlets. I have the mesh that goes over the airbox inlets, but I don't have this other foam. Do I need it and if so does anybody have some extras they want to sell?

I believe they are important. Others might say no... They seal the top of the airboxes to the bottom of the hood. There is actually a foam filter under your guage pod that filters intake air sucking in from under the tach and speedo. They do not have to filter air tho so you can just find any foam and cut your own. Mine are not originals.

The foam seals the hood to the boxes so all the intake air comes from above the hood. Usually colder and at a different pressure than under hood air.

I made my own out of some green foam stuff years ago....still holding and working great...I think it was foam carpet padding? (or the like-thickness wise)..LOL..cant remember its been so long...
