Need carb help

I cleaned my carbs on my 92 V max 4 today and yes I was not paying attention when I took them apart. There is a plastic round peice that goes around the main jet in the float bowl, which way should that be on? With smooth side up or down? Any input on this would be great. Thanks in advance.
