I can get a good deal on a new 89a belt. 3:16 and others are saying to use 8bu. What are the main difference in belt compound composition between the 8bu and the 89a drive belts and its effect on shift rpm, belt wear and slip. I am running 3:16's stock clutch set-up and have installed all new clutch components rollers, pins, washers, springs etc. I don't want to jeoprodize clutch performance by using the 89a. Comments appreciated.

Thanks,

The 8BU is made from a softer compound than the 89A

DAN, 89A BELT WAS STOCK BELT ON 92-93-94 VMAX4. 8BU-17614-00-00 WAS STOCK ON THE 95-96-97 800. THE 89A BELT WAS VERY HARD COMPOUND AND CAUSED SOME OVER REV ISSUES ON 750. TODAY IF YA ORDER A BELT FOR ANY VMAX 4 92-97 FROM YAMAHA , YOU WILL GET A 8BU-17614-10-00. ONLY DEFFERNCE HERE IS YAMAHA DISCONTIUED THE 89A BELT. ALSO ALL THE TESTING I DID WITH THAT CLUTCH SET-UP WAS DONE WITH THE SOFT COMPOUND 8BU BELT. !! 3:16 (tony)
