View Full Version : OK how much is this going to Cost
Riding the vmax this weekend, everythig going good, until its starts vibrating like the track is slipping around the cogs,go to adjust the track but it seems like its tight, I tilt it on its side, and the shaft that runs the drive cogs, from the gear box thru the track drive , it looks cracked or broken, well its not straight, you can see a clear kink in it, I have never taken one of these apart so i dont know the details, Is this a solid shaft all the way thru, could it be just a bearing?? How hard is it to take this off??? Where to find parts??
You broke your driveshaft. Been der dun dat. Hopefully you did not take out the chaincase & damage gears or chain. Don,t even move it like this. You hopefully just need to replace the driveshaft.
I knew what ever happened it wasnt good, I didnt move it very far after, Are the drive shaft expensive?? I have a exciter laying around for parts dos anyone know if it is the same shaft???

Depends on what year Vmax-4 you have, I might have an extra set of drive cogs.
The Exciter is not the same.
Its a 93, I found out the shaft isnt the same, your cogs that you have does that have the axle shaft in them?? I have to finish taking it apart tonight,, Anyone know what causes them to break?? track to tight?? jumping?? frozen bearing??
I have broken 2 of em. The pre 00,s were weak & if you had very good traction & put a lot of stress on em they would usually snap in the middle.

Were you riding and then all the sudden it just started vibrating? Or were you taking off from a stop and it vibrated like the cogs were slipping? I'm wondering because last year when I was doing a couple high speed runs on the lake my '97 V4 was acting as if the cogs were slipping when I was taking off, but once I was hooked up it was fine. It did this only from a stop, I thought maybe it was the studs tearing through the ice, but after hearing your problem, could it be something with the driveshaft or the cogs?

I had just did some WOT runs down some back roads, was on my way back went up over a large snowbank, not real fast, and when i got into the power it did it, if you started real slow it wouldnt make the noise, so I went real slow abouot 3 blocks home, and right on the trailer. Vmaxrules how much for the cogs and axle??? Thanks again for all the info...

Exciter570 ... you're more than likely experiencing track ratcheting ... and this is common when your track isn't tight enough, or when you swap out the stock suspension the angle of attack and height of the newer suspensions sometimes will cause excessive ratcheting and will require extrovert drivers.

I have the 1997 V4 with the ProAction Plus X rear suspension in it. Where can I get a set of these extroverts and about how much do they cost? this "slipping" or ratcheting is pretty annoying when trying to take off!

DV8,
I replaced my drive axle and wheels and I have to say it is pretty easy and I never done, anything like that before. I still have pictures and I think a post on here about having the members on here help me out. If I can do it, I am sure you will have no problem replacing it.

I have it half way tore down, I think i can figure it out, one question though is there any alignment that i have to worry about, as far as where the track lines up under the hull??? or does it only bolt in one way??
