I'm wanting to add some different handlebars to my 94, I do mostly mountain riding and find there way to low to stand up with out bending over alot. I'm 6'2" so that dont help my cause any but I dont have any stability when standing. not only that there only 26" wide, My ATV has 31" wide bars and I have a lot more stability when riding that. So my question is will atv bars fit on it or is there a factory bar out there thats taller and wider to beter fit me?

The bars on a vmax4 suck when it comes to raising them. The clamping device is down below the bars and they are held on with a "T" extension that comes off the bottom of the bars. The hole pattern is even different than other Yamahas. Your cables are gonna be stretched to the max at the 2" mark as well. If I was going to do it again, I would take the ATV bars and weld my own "T" extenson to the bottom and then run cable extensions. This way you can get the 6" of lift you're going to need to stand up straight. I'm only 5'11" and 2" isn't enough for me. My buddy has a Pro-X Polaris and the bars hit me above the waist. That sure makes a difference when riding.

Hey, I just finished putting an 8inch riser on my vmax4. It took me some time to figure out what would work, but I have it setup and it feels so good. No snow her yet so I havn't been able to test properly.
The 8" allows me to stand up straight with arm slightly bent while holding the bars, and I'm 5' 11". It looks pretty nice too. If I can find my digital camera, I'll take some pics and post. I also added a new custom High Top seat that I had made up ... it looks deadly.
Here's the list of parts you'll need to order.
1 Powermadd 8" riser
1 Powermadd riser adapter
2 Powermadd cable extensions
1 ATV brake cable
You'll need to cut the T off your stock bars, so they fit in the new riser. You'll also need to drill out the holes in your steering post mount so the riser adapter will bolt on. I also added jkooks to the bars to give them more width.

why did you have to cut the "T"? did you just weld a extension in the middle or something? also how did the "J" hooks work?
I have some steel tube that is almost the correct ID to fit over the stock extension and a welder to get it back together but my bars are still going to be to skinny to fit me correctly. is there any way to remove the hand grips with out destroying them since I have them JB welded on?
Cause if so I think I would buy some new bars that have the riser built in.

if you take your bars off, you will see the T extension is clamped unto the steering post. Your Bars will clamp to the new riser the same way, and the T extension doesn't fit inside the riser, and it will need to be cut since its too narrow to fit on a riser.
The extesion is an aftermarket product and requires no welding.
The jhooks are inserted into the bar ends, and are made to lock themselves in place by tightening a bolt built into the piece. You can get 45 and 90 degree hooks, they add about 2inches to the width of you bars on each side (so your bars will be 4 inches wider).
Handgrips, not sure how you have them secured with JB Weld, but all i did was drill out the rivet in each grip, and they came off pretty easy. The hand warmers are built into these grips so be careful you don't crack the plastic case the grips are pulled over .... you want to remove the full handgrip including the warmer ... so you'll need to unplug the wires.
I searched alot, and I never saw any aftermarket bars with built in risers. You can also look for older Exciter handle bars which have a longer T extension.
