What is a safe length of stud for a vmax, so your heat exchanger does't get damaged?

I dont think any lengh stud would be completely safe for your exchangers without protecters.

whcih brings me to a thought, after looking at my protecters, I think i could have a friend of mine that is a master aluminum welder, make them pretty cheap, and he likely has what he needs on hand to do it, So How much do they cost new anyway?
