It is located 17 miles north of Newberry Michigan just south of Lake Superior.

Everyone is welcome - book early if possible,
this is a small motel in the middle of BFE and rooms fill quickly.

I plan on arriving Sat Jan 21st and heading home on Thurs Jan 26th,
my room is booked from the 21st until the 25th using the 26th as the drive home day.

Hey V-Max 4 Rules, I have to get my work schedule after being off from a neck injury (thats how I found this site) for a couple months, but, I am seriously thinking about it. Are we talking V-Max 4 only rides or anyone with a sled. Got a good friend with a twin piped V-Max 600, I may seriously come. Pictures from a V-Max 4 only ride would be sweet and exchange go fast tips.

What do you mean? I'm a great rider. I'll tell you one thing, those sleds sure can pull. One day, we had that wildcat, with the polaris motor in it, break down on the middle of a lake, and we had to tow it about 15 miles through trails in the middle of the night.

DUDE!!! My family has a cabin down the road past the state park. We have been worrking on it for several years now. We go up there literally every other weekend in the winter to ride. My dad and I know the owner of winter haven (jeff ross) WHAT A CHARACTER...a real live upper. I am just now crunching to get my sled done. It is a 1996 mountain vmax4. I blew the motor at the end of last year...hopefully it will be done by thanksgiving. I am also doing a custom paint job on it right now. Ill post pics as soon as i get it done. I hear that they have snow already!!! If you guys wants to go do some real off trail riding... I know the spots. I have been riding in the deer park area for probably 15 years now....and my dad many more. We know so many cool spots of the beaten trail (we know the area like the back of our hands) I dont know if you are familiar with the blind sucker river...but there spots back there that i could show you that could almost compare to riding out west. My dad in planning a trip out west in late march early feb. He wants to go ride out in the mountains before he gets "too old to jump a 17ft drift." Ill have to look you up that weekend and go eat some PUTTY CATS!!!!

My 1st trip of the year to the UP (western side) officially starts Christmas day and unfortunatly, Ill be riding a borrowed machine (at least itll still be a yamaha)
Its gonna work out good though, since Ill be driving by KOTL's place, Ill be dropping my sleds off for him to make happen. So God willing Ill be riding with you guys up there.
Schicks800, Are you gonna be up there for sure? Ill bring the LT if so. Id love to hit some western style terrain and virgin snow with that thing!

Oh and KOTL Id love to try a set of your pipes out!

yeah...ill probably be up there then....jan 20th right? I was up there over Christmas and just got back. The snowmobiling was pretty crappy...but as soon as the get some snow it will be great. They have snow just getting hard a crusty...will make a perfect base though...i put around 100 miles on my sled...so far no problems...runs like a champ. I can't wait till it is totally broken in.

Well it doesnt look like Im goin. Ill be meeting family at lake gogebic on the 26th now after I pick up my sleds in wisconsin, so things arent goin to work out for me to meet you guys up there earlier in the week.
I was lookin forward to meetin some people too. Hopefully some of us can get together after that, anyone have plans for a later ride somwhere?

Hey, I haven't even ridden my sled this year, but I'm still going. I've got lots of spare parts and tools in the trailer. If that fails, I'll have my Exciter as a spare sled. It hasn't even been started yet this year!:eek: :eek: :eek: I'm not worried. There's a good reason why I bought Yamaha's. Bring on the Stump!!!

I doubt if he's feeding you a line of bull, there are only 7 rooms at this motel.
Just let us know what's going on and we will plan accordingly.
The snow conditions are not as good as usual, they did pick up 8-12" in the last couple days,
on average this time of year they would have 24" plus on the ground.
Awesome place to ride from you can go in all directions with very few if any paved roads to cross,
the scenery (Grand Sable Dunes, Pictured Rocks, Lake Superior, Tahquamenon Falls etc) is not too bad either.

Our plan was to get up there Saturday evening unload
kick back and let the throttle jockeys wear themselves
out before they head home on Sunday then the next 4
days will have very little traffic or beat up trails to deal with.

Excelent,I need to do quite a bit of stuff before going.Install new trailer tires,put on plates,try to fix one of the ski tie downs(rusted-not used buy previous owner)Install jackshaft bearing into old srx(20 min max),Fix rear brake on truck(adjuster roll pin let the guts fall into drum nasty noise)Change oil and whatever else I can think of,trail permits.I colud go on but I wont.My mom has a place in Fredric,not to far from elmira.

Today was a near disaster,I pulled the trailer into the barn to do the checkup,bearings,tires,latches,hold downs.Well lets just say the guy I bought it from must have never removed one of the ski tiedowns,Not to fret a littlte map gas and a bit of muscle and problem solved.Tires:I knew one of them was a slow leaker so I had just bought 2 new tires ffom a store on e-bay($107.00 delivered to door).Rite size perfect everthing,So i jack up the trailer knowing that there was a BIT OF RUST on all the lugs so I had soaked them with PBblaster earlier in the day.I'm hammerein away with the impact and 4 of 5 of the studs threaded out.No biggie just put them to the wire wheel and some more Map gas and a vise job well done.Same with the other side,But wait!!!(DRAMA)This side decided to eat threads and spit out the stud at me laughing in my face,:cussing: .4pm 2 auto parts stores and a hardware and no stud:cussing: .So i drive 15miles down the road praying that the trailer dealer is still open and to my supprise .......It was :urock: .Dude says what you need i say stud and hold up the knarled remains of what used to be holding on part of my rim.He say no problem turns around digs into a bin and pulles out the twin,a perfect match made in heaven.Lugnut ,yes please cool that will be $1.90.
So buy 5 pm I am back in the barn puttin some more wood to the stove,Then the shiney new stud and lugnut went on whithout 1 bit o trouble(BIG SMILE).Trailer done after adding the new licence plate and groovy custom cover.NOw I have to reonstall the jackshaft bearing into my 80SRX to use as backup,Done in just under a half hour.time to load it up next to the newer and bigger brother SXR700.Well now its been SO FRIGGIN NICE OUT Ya know,The drive way to the barn is resembeling mud bog from hell.Got it covered,Sportsman to the rescue!While trying to backup to the barn door so I dont have to ride my baby through the nasty mud bog was quite the challenge.Mud+short wheel base+not having eyes on the back of the trailer was just short of frustrating.I finaly got er done,So how was your day?I still need to pack which is not much,Cold monkey suit and boots,skivies,socks,and some perty smallin water and I'm good to go.I even washed my truck,But forgot to change oil:cussing: !

Sounds like another day in the big city! Glad you got everything done. Did you go to the trailer supply down by Schram's? The last time I needed hinges for my trailer I went to Forbe's down on M-59. It's a small place, but I was told they have everything.

My hinges are the lynch pins front and back,Trailer opens both ways to drive on and off.I did forget 1 thing my trail permits but thats a quick on the way thing so not that big of a deal.

Alan says there's coffee in the rooms, but to bring your own because they don't provide much. I have some that I'm bringing, so if you bring yours we should be okay. I love my coffee when I get up.
