DEAN, DON,T DO ANYTHING UNTIL YOU COME TO JACOBEYS. YOU NEED TO TALK TO BUSTER 696 ABOUT A CLUTCH SET-UP FROM SIMONS CPR FOR THE RX-1. I WILL INTRODUCE YOU TO HIM THERE. !! 3:16 (tony)

Hey Dean whos this Yammiegod (junior member!) Whats he doing sucking up to the moderator to get a better rating?LOL! Just kidding I think the kit 3:16 is talking about is the same one I'm talking about. I know Rick at advant-edge who deals Simons and he gave me good feedback on that kit. By the way mine is blue and I bought it in Ogdensburg NY. Have you had any problems with that suspension yet? Mine was a new old stock. I'll try and get pics but my email is down!

JMINOR, I THINK YOU HAVE THAT BACKWARDS !! 3:16 (tony)
DEAN HAS FRIENDS WHO KNOW THE RIGHT PEOPLE lol
HH weights, 48/40 advant-edge helix, silver spring at 80 wrap. This will run right with a ported 700 SRX.Mine was quickest withthis set up tested including 8bu,s & heelclickers. I don,t remember the exact set up as far as mass in the weights but i can get ya close. Most kits over-rev the engine. You gotta be 9800 rpm holeshot & slowly climbing to no more then 10,200 at WOT.

Hey Turk do you know anyone who has tried the power up kit from Simons? It includes springs, weights, evac kit, filters, rollers, plugs, carb springs and exhaust mod. How do you think it would rank up to your setup? This four stroke business is a whole new world!!

JMINOR, I RACED TWO OF THEM WITH THE EXACT KIT YOU JUST DESCRIBED WITH MY 2002 SRX IN A 1/2 MILE SNOW DRAG LAST YEAR. MY 2002 SRX HAS A 8BU SET-UP I MADE FROM SCRATCH. THESE TWO 4 STROKES ARE VERY FAST AND LAUCH VERY HARD , BUT CAN NOT HOLD ME OFF AND I WALK BY THEM PRETTY EASY AT THE 750 F.T. MARK. NOW I WILL BE RACING THESE BOTH SLEDS NEXT WEEK ON THE GRASS WITH MY VMAX 800, LAST YEAR THEY WERE AT THIS EVENT RUNNING VERY HARD, THAT KIT WORKS PRETTY GOOD!! 3:16 (tony)
I have never tried a "KIT". I know my RX-1 with the above set up would run slightly ahead of a 2002 clutched SRX in just over 1000'. Kits are ok but you can work on em & get a lot more out of em. They will give you a good starting point. Just shoot for the sweet spot & don,t rev it over 10,200 rpm. Under revving is better then over reving with the RX-1.

:goodp: So do you not do anything with the breathing of this motor? Just strictly clutching? Rick @ advant-edge who I've dealt with in the past quite a bit had told me 2 05's 1 stock, 1 with the kit in OVER 1000' approx. 1300' ran 109 stock, 114 w kit. Sounds decent for that length. I would think in a full pull you might get 7-8 mph over stock. How do you think that ranks up to other setups including yours?jminor. P.S. I'm not trying to bash your post by any means here I have'nt talked to you much so I just wanted you to know that.I'm just throwing it out there. It's obvious you've done your homework on these and I appreciate you sharing it with me and everyone else!

I'm going to be loaded with questions seeing as how this is my first four stroke!!
I never tried an ECP filter kit. I bought one but went with a Turbo. Some guys are quicker to 80 mph but I have never heard of any top end gains with the filters.

MIKE, I CAUGHT THESE TWO 4 STROKES WAY BEFORE 1000 F.T. ON A 1/2 MILE RUN ON SNOW WITH MY 02 SRX. MATTER OF FACT ONE I TOOK RIGHT OUT OF THE HOLE, THE OTHER ONE BEAT ME OUT BY 2 SLEDS EVEYTIME I RACED HIM AND I REALED HIM AT THE 700 F.T. MARK. GO BY THEM PRETTY HARD, NO CREAPING BY !! 3:16 (tony)
Tony; my results were slightly different then yours. My sled was dialed in very well clutching & suspension wise just before turboization!

Turk I have the heavy hitters from a viper I just sold. Are they the same weights and I would have to just change rivots? Also I have a silver spring from the same machine, is it the same as what you speak of also? If it is the same and you could give me the mass that would save me alot of money and time. I could get away with ordering a helix from advant-edge and using whats already on my shelf!! Thanks again for your help Turk! Dean I'm getting scared.......For You!!! Just kidding!
OK...this is from memory which sucks. Stock primary spring , 1/4" allen in heel,3/8" steel in 1st hole, 3/8 aluminum in tip, 48/40 advant-edge with silver at 70 wrap. Remember this won,t be 100% but it should be close. 9800 rpm holeshot climbing to 10,200 rpm(no higher) at top speed. Stock gearing; 230 lb rider at 1500' elevation.

the clutch and seconary on the rx1 are the same with different guts as that of a viper or srx right? Is there anywhere you had written the setup down??
The guts are the same...rollers & primary springs are different. I never wrote anything down & i am now regretting doing that. I used to be able to remember every thing i tried but old age is biting me in the a$$!

Any idea on how much improvement over stock? I'm sure you had the gun out on this one!! Also, seeing as how you ordered from Rick at advant-edge, you must be Canadian as well? Thanks Turk. Dean did you have any issues with that suspension yet?
I got the same top end as a stocker but racing a real skinny guy on a bone stock RX I would walk away from him accelerating from a dead stop.

Josh, nothing yet, except for the rust where all of the welds are.
I'm going to get my whole rear skid powdercoated in spring.

By the same top end would you say 115? How do I get more top end? I know, I know but I mean other than a TURBO!!!!!

I read on TY4STROKE.com you can gain topend by gearing down.?????????
I geared my RX-1 down & I was slower all over the place...holeshot, mid & top end. Leave the gearing stock. To get more top end install a SRX suspension(8" travel) ; a speed track & suck the suspension down.

I want top end without sacrificing ride!! There's got to be something in the clutching to get me that.

Agreed, lower gearing with a 121 RX-1 was crap when I tried it, lost 4mph in 1000ft and the acceleration wasn't as smooth.
My setup doesn't really apply to anyone because I run a Team Secondary so I'm setup differently, but I too run the Heavy Hitters.
One thing I deffinitely found out was that you have to shift these four-strokes, 10,500 rpm was SLOW on my sled. Lost 3 lengths at 10,500 as compared to 9900. Deffinietly agree with Turk on the rpms. If you get too high you get too far out of the torque, which may be ok on a sheet of ice, but doesn't work in real world conditions.

Are the helix angles alot different on the team 2ndary compared to the Yami one ?
Master of Faster
10-27-2005, 09:39 PM
They're somewhat different. They're a different cut. Take a 58-44-.50 for example starts at 58 degress, falls to 44 degrees but halfway through the shift it reaches its final angle and finishes at a straight rate, its hard to explain I guess. I'd be happy to give anybody my setup, but they'd have to realize that it would definitely need fine tuning to fit their sled, as I've made some other changes.

Have you had a post of your 03 on that avatar of yours yet LOL?? I think the 03's were about 109-111 out of the box, what are you at?
Master of Faster
10-28-2005, 12:24 PM
Mine is good for 125 on the speedo so roughly 113-115 in the real world as it sits. I know that I can pull more out of it but primarily I like it to run good in the shorter distances. Now my dad also has an 03 and he'll eventually walk by me on the big end, but can't hang in the shorter distances.
There is a trick involving the TPS on the RX-1s that not alot of people mess with but it does make a difference. Alot of sleds with poor top end have too high of a TPS setting (it can be changed just simply by cleaning the carbs and bumping it), but a higher TPS setting can make ya rip in 500 ft.
So basically I set the TPS's up for different condtions, thats one of the reasons for the top-end difference, other than clutching, gearing, and about a hundred other factors.
Adjusting the TPS is kinda sorta like advancing the timing. Works on newer SRX,s also to help give a boost on low end power but will cost ya a few on top end.

Turk, What sled is the silver spring from ? any ideas in where to start with primary rivets ? I know it will just be a start, I mostly ride sealevel to 1500-2000 ft and weigh probably 210-220 dressed to ride..
Thanks.

Not to butt in, but if I remember correctly, the silver spring is stock in the Vmax-4 800's.

Working from my crappy memory; 1/4" allen in heel' 4 grams 1st hole & 2 grams tip should be close.

You can pull the tip rivet out and they work pretty good I've heard, never did try it myself.

Another solid setup is Dalton 60gr weights, with Blk/Blu or Blk/Silver Dalton primary spring, silver Yamaha secondary with a Dalton 52r46 helix.
Dalton makes some good stuff, their weights just aren't adjustable, but they're ALOT cheaper than HH's
I could not get good top end with Dalton stuff & tested em a lot for about 2-3 weeks. They ran strong to about 80 mph & then fell off. I have used stock 8df RX-1 weights & removing the tip or 1st hole weight worked well. Removing the tip=slightly better backshift for trail riding & removing the inner = hard acceleration & good top end but lacking in backshift. I got hh,s to work a lot better then Dalton weights.
