What about a 1997 700SX, I have one of those and it ROCKS!!
They do look alot like an SRX except for the buldge in the SRX hood for the stock triple pipes.
I think here in Finland customers have always gone towards smaller sleds. Those 440 race sleds were/are really popular and 500/600 twins too. Nobody really wanted a triple or big cc sleds here. Since Haikonen and Ahmasalo raced in the WSA and Tapio here, all the young sledheads followed.
And those solo-touring sleds havenīt ever been popular here (like the Classic from Poo, or the Vmax DeLuxe 700).

They're all junk!:fishing: ,.......my Uncle has a 98 Vmax 700SX that he bought new in 2000, he then had the dealer put a 126 x 1.75 or 2in. track on it (since he lives in the mountains) and so far the only problems he's had with it are a hole in the cooler in front of the track (his fault, he hit a hidden stump) and my Dad and I solved his vibration under load problem by changing his clutch belt (it was the original belt and it had 3,800kms on it:bowdown: ),........so yeah other than the fact that it's a heavy mountain sled it actually works pretty well (seems to climb nice).
We had some 700 XTC's here at work. They weren't anything special, but one night we got diesel in one tank, so we tipped it over and drained it, filled it back back and rode away.
Everything seemed OK at first, until the diesel made it's way to the motor. It was like a thick fog coming out the exhaust. We ended up in some deep powder and got it stuck. The cloud of smoke was so thick you couldn't see the headlight more than a foot in front, and the cloud drifted for a couple hundred feet.
It actually ran the rest of the night and another 2 years before we sold it. No plugs fouled or anything. Amazing motors!

the sx's were/are nice. the vmax and vmax deluxe with the crummy shocks ride poorly. or I thought so at least. dad has an 02, mom has an 03. both are finicky to trail conditions. one minute it will ride and handle nice, next minute it doesnt. seats are hard and the bars are narrow compared to an sxr. dad went from a 96 500 xt that he LOVED for about 13k miles to the 02 vmax that he NEVER loved lol! ok sleds, but the sx and sxr was far better, even if you werent a mogul masher. mom liked her 00 sxr a LOT better than her 03 vmax, and she doesnt like to go faster than 40mph and ODESNT ride the moguls any more than about 20. just a more comfortable seat, bars, and footrests :) I have blabbed long enough ;)

The Black Vmax 600 XT is just like my wifes sled. Both of us really like the sled. The XT rear susp is super, better then my ZR. Front is also good but the ZR much better. Just IMO.

I wonder if there is much speed difference between the 700xt and the 750, which is a better sled?

The 97 600SX was too soft from the factory. Had to really tune it in to get her to go, but once I did it was unstoppable for a few years in the 600 class. My SRX was too good to be true. In my opinion, the best snowmobile ever built and mass produced. The SRX's kicked more ass than any Yamaha I have ever seen. And they still do.:banana_1:

I have a buddy with a 97 SX 700 triple for sale for $3000 CDN. It is in fantastic shape. I'm not sure of the mods, but according to him it is putting out about 190 hp. Just wondering how the gas mileage on this would compare to my stock 92 750 VMax4? I get about 9 - 10 mpg with the VMax4 topping out at about 130 km (about 80 miles) per tank at most LOL. And how much more comfortable would the skid under the SX be compared to mine? Mark???

I have a 2000 700 SXR and love it,fuel mileage depends on how much flipper your using along the way.
Definately a comfy ride with the pro-action,lots of power at stock rating(115 i think).I am very happy with it!:super:

So the 700 would be a little lighter?
Also, I am hearing that there were issues with the cranks on the 700's. Is there a history there? If so, I'll reconsider purchasing this one.
A friend I ride with has one and a couple years ago we where riding and it seized tight. He was told by the guy that fixed it that a bearing race turned and the slot in it that supplies oil/gas was blocked and not getting lube to the bearing and caused it to lock up. He said the replacement bearing came with a flat or a pin that would prevent this from happening again. He rode the sled for a couple more years and loved its handling and power. He just purchased a brandnew 2006 Nytro and is sending the 700SX to auction some time this week. Told me the other day he hates to do it but likes the Nytro. Oh yah, he also bent alot of skis on it too.

Interesting. I'll have to check with my bud to see if he's experienced any issues with his.
