Who has installed extroverts with a stock skid? I'm doing some measuring but was just wondering how much you had to cut off your rails and if you are running the end caps on the rails or not.

Ken, I forget who it was..and I have since deleted it from my in box...But somebody had told me they need to cut a 1/2 inch off the rails and then reinstall the caps....Hopefully somebody can give you more solid advice. This is just what i remember

I run 8 tooth for paddle clearance and have my skid lowered and punched back a bit so I didn't have to cut the rails. If you are running the same size drivers (9tooth) as stock, the only difference would be the amount the sprocket tooth sticks out from the driver. You can shorten the rail that much and your clearance will be the same as before or go a bit less and have the points of the sprockets machined off a bit. I've heard some of the suppliers are doing this now.

What do the extrovert drivers do fo the machine? Are they different from regular track drivers?
Are they for a specific application such as race or deep snow?I see posts about them but never asked.

Hi Ken!
Ive got the 9 tooth xtro's on mine - I had to cut 1" off - I did it by taking a 1/2" off the rails and belt sanded 1/2" off the caps. I wanted t leave the caps on because I figured they must serve some purpose and it keeps the skid looking "finished" - and I thought taking an inch off the rails and redrilling for the caps that far back looked iffy.

Thanks for the info guys!

Izz - is that with a stock skid or a newer proaction?

I'll probably end up putting my skid back in without shocks to double check the clearance.

Bubs - the extroverts have external drive teeth as well as the internal. You only run 2 drivers versus the stock 4. They help with ratcheting and let you run your track a bit looser to free up some HP.

I noticed at lower speeds on my SXR that it sounds as if were ratcheting.I thought it was due to a combination the ground being solid and low snow conditions. On our ride in da up I didnt notice it as much,And niether Alan or Mark mentioned anything about any noises'.I bought it beat up pretty good and I should probably check the track tension and alignment as well.

I think I understand the extrovert,One wheel does the work of 2 instead of having the 4 wheels(drivers). One in the track window reaches over to the nubs I see that look like there would be the second driver. So less rotating mass ocoures. And more powere to track by the sprocket looking teeth.

Your drivers are different than mine. Mine have the internal drive lugs on both sides and the external sprocket teeth look longer on yours, I'll post a photo when I get a chance.

Chris

Yours aren't the "cheap" ones. They're just the originals. A couple years ago they started producing the "high performance" extroverts for these crazy long tracked high hp mountain sleds. They drive off of 2 sets of lugs and the windows. The hex hub is longer of coarse because the high hp was also spinning drive shafts in the hub. Yours will work fine. The new style was about $150.00 ea when I first saw them. They might have come down in price a bit now though.

So the difference is the teeth on the driver for the windows as opposed to running off the internal lugs exclusivly?I saw a stock shaft on Ebay that had 4 drivers that looked like it was to drive internal lugs only not the windows. It makes perfect sense to me seeing the pics and the reasons why to do so,Thanks for the explanations.

Ken, if ya dont mind me asking, how much were them drivers each?
Thanks.

EDIT: never mind ken, I found it in another thread.

but i did want to ask ya, where is that thread where you were asking about how to figure out exactly where to place the drivers on the axle? I cant find it for some reason? I wanted to go back and re read it. Thanks

AL,

I had trouble finding the thread too.

I looked all over the place to find the dimensions that I calculated but I can't find them. I must have left the sheet in my buddy's garage. If I can locate it I will post what I used for you.

I measured mine before I took it apart, the outer wheels were a couple of mm off Yamaha spec.

Note that in Wahl's instructions it indicate that the normal center distance is 9". I have a Yokohama AC track on mine and I measured the track window centres on the guide clipped windows and got 8 7/8". It would probably be worth measuring the actual window centres on your track.

I also logged the dimensions for installation with a Camoplast drag track with the Wahl drivers. I can fax you the drawings if you need them

There is a program you can get free that will convert faxs to email and viseversa. Not sure what its called but I know something like it is avaliable if not already included in windows.
Sorry for getting off track but that is what the Extroverts are for,HP TO THE GROUND!
