View Full Version : Shock Help
1995 Vmax 600 ST, I know it's not a Vmax-4 but for this year I will make do. The problem is that the rear shock is quite dead, it's the spring over type and costly to replace. Any ideas of a replacement type shock that would work or if not anyone have a shock for sale that would replace it....I am lowering the rails 2" and adding 3/4" spacers to the T.S.S. to raise the track and front end for more clearance.

Yamaha's Kayaba's are always too expensive. You need a shock compression tool to get the spring off-or take it to a dealer when you get your new shock and have them take the old spring off the old shock, and put the new one in. Shouldn't be more than 1/4 hour labor. Probably $15-$20.
Check HPE or Shadetree or Dennis Kirk for a replacement shock. If you need a catalog or the numbers let me know, I got 'em. You can get away with what I call a throwaway example-Ryde FX or other brand for 80-$125 ish.
Good luck.

You could ask roadrunner if he still has his old ones he wants to get rid of. He had a classified ad before the site crashed with a couple pairs of old shocks he wanted to get rid of for cheap, possibly pay for shipping only? Cant remember exactly. worth a shot though if you want to save some money.
