Now I`m starting to get a little agvravated with the whole clutch thing. i was just out in the garage looking at my primary clutch, and noticed that the spider has 88R on it, now when i look up the spider at the yamaha site, it says my 95 takes a 8BW spider, so i looked at the 750`s and thier spider number is 88R. so what does this mean? someone put a 750 clutch on it? what else could it mean? I dont know why they would have done that, it only had 1800 miles on it when I got it, and from the paper work i got with it, the guy that owned it before me, did`nt work on it himself, judging by the reciepts of having major and very minor things done to it. So i would geuss he did`nt do much work to it himself, and on none of the paper work, does it say the clutch was changed? could it be that yamaha was still using the last of the 88r spiders? or did they just change the part number? can someone with a 800 look at thier spider and see what the number/letter is? you dont have to take it off or anything, you can see it easily without taking anything apart. Thanks AL ARG!!!!!!!!!

The earlier V4's had D-shaped sliding shoes on the sliding sheave vs the newer ramp style that are attached to the spider via a roll pin.

Yamaha shows the following:
92 - 88R
93 - 88R
94 - 97 -8BW

Yes sometime the cat. or the old mico fishe would mess up. But I also recall Yamaha would would use a current casting, modify it somewhere and change the part number without changing the the casting marks in this case 88R. This may be the case here. I have a bubby at Yamaha I'll try and find out more regarding this part.

so the early vmax 4`s had the d thing connected to the sliding sheave, where as the newer vmax 4`s had the d things connected to the spider? my setup, had "D" looking shoes that are connected directly to the spider, so does that mean its a late setup, or early?

Hey vmax 535, if you would, ask your duddy how much of a differand the primary clutch cap is, between the 750 and the 800`s. thanks aL

Here`s a pic of my clutch, its not a very good picture, but its the only one i have right now. its hard to see in the pics, but I do have "D" looking shoes that are part of the spider.

Thats 800 Al. As rules said the 750's are white long D shape guides that you could just pull out of the sheave.
