Guys Ive been back with my sleds for over a week now and Ive been waiting to post my thanks to Brian till I had more. Well I still dont have a lot of time but Ive got to at least publicly say thanks.
I paid a lot of money to "go to school" (Skinner) on this one. I wanted to hop my 800 up myself with no previous experience - burned down twice! I gave up and Brian volunteered to help me out. I cant thank him enough!
It was a little weird hooking my trailer up to a strangers truck in a parking lot in a foreign town 400 miles from home at midnight. Anyone I told thought I was a little weird too. Turns out it was one of the wisest things Ive done.
Brian treated my sleds and trailer better than I do. He completly rebuilt my motor and weeded out all the problems all the while taking a sensible and safe approach to tweaking a few xtra horsies out of it. He even almost got a divorce over it - OK I did to, but thats another story.
Turns out you guys that suggested the head problems were right - I was blinded by ignorance and had the head cut .032 without even thinkin it couldve been cut previously or measuring it or takin the time to learn about squish, cc's, or combustion chamber design - Critical error!
This whole thing was a lesson and like Skinner says -the price I paid was to go to school. I dont regret it anymore, because I learned ALOT!
Thank God for Brian because without him the cost wouldve been significantly more! He did everything right! Proffesionaly! at a fraction of what a dealer wouldve charged!
Brian also fixed a backfiring problem with my 750 - he found that the head covering cyl#3&4 was a PSI mod head with 160psi per cyl. and cyl#1&2 head was a stock head with 125 psi. Fairly easy fix (thanks blue streek for the head)
I went and put 500 miles on my 800 and no problems (just have to put in shorter studs and fine tune the jetting and clutching) it runs strong!
Put 100 miles on my 750 with no problems and wow! thats a fun sled to ride on the trails!
Bottom line is Brians the man! Now hopefully he can patch up his relationship (like Im workin on) and get us some pipes, then I can put my 750 quads back on my 750 and get a pair of his improvers for my 800!
Just kiddin honey, Im not goin out to the garage to work on my sleds, just need to clean things up a little........
