Just bought my first V-max 4 2 Fridays ago, and just got my first ride yesterday, what a sweet machine, but man, terrible on the gas milage. Is 6.5 miles per gallon common?

Welcome, overdrive75:welcome: to our little Vmax-4 club. There are many things that would reduce gas mileage. Here are a few things to check on a used machine. Belt - the width on a new belt should be 34.5mm (1.36 in.) and the wear limit is 33mm (1.3 in.). Can you read what number is on your belt? It might not even be the right one. Your clutch should engage around 3,600 rpm, and the sheave offset distance from the primary clutch to the secondary clutch should be .57 to .69 in. on the sheaves closest to the engine. Are all 4 cylinders firing? Check the plugs. You might not notice the difference if you're used to 3 cylinder sleds.:D :D Also check for seized idler wheels in the suspension. Post any findings in the General questions forum and there will be a lot of guys who will help you out. You can also use the "search" feature at the top of the message board to type in a keyword or phrase to search for a specific topic. I generally get 8-10 mpg on normal trail riding, but I didn't do that well this year. I have to check some things on my sled, also (right vmax4rules?).
