well once again this piece of crap 94 v4 is broken down after a clutch, pistons, cylinders. track, pipes broke. chaincase blew and now the crank went.
my name suits the vmax4. it is a lemon. we finally got some snow and i find this out when i go to drive it. needless too say i wil be outside in a snowstorm tonite at 3 am probly doing a crank at -20 so i can ride tomorro :cussing:
can anyone quickly help me for the measurements for the crank to check if its twisted. i want to see how far its off before i put it back.
i hope its runnning for tomorro. its my birthday lol

Busted,
Sorry to hear about your sled. I hope you can get it going for your B-Day.
I do hope your day is good tomorrow adn HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Doug
I`m not sure what ya mean by measurements. but basicaly, if its a standard 90 degree firing motor. when number one piston (nearest the clutch) is atTDC, number two piston should be at BDC, and cylinders three and four, should both be even at half stroke.
hope this helps?
whats leading ya to thinking its the crank?
clutch-----------piston 1 TDC
------------------------------------------piston 3---&---piston 4 even at half stroke
-----------------------------piston 2 BDC

well the pipes are semi-cold on 3 & 4. the engine runs. has spark and i have 4 coils to check this.
it idles at 1550 rpm
pull # 1 plug wire idles slows.
pull #2 idle slows.
pull #3 idles doesnt move and the same for #4
but pull both 1 & 2 it runs but very weak.
pull 3 & 4 it changes idle only a bit.
compression seems fine, as the top end was rebuilt only 300 kms ago.
i blew a chaincase and it overreved in the ditch last year. its probly from this. the chain snapped wrapped around the grear and took everything with it as it slammed the chain out the side.
and it plain out doesnt sound like a vmax4 anymore.
i should drop in my mtn project motor but that still needs work too.
Yeah that dont sound to good. have you taken all the plugs out, put them back in the correct plug wire, then cranked it over to see if they all apear to be sparking them same, same color spark? maybe the 3 & 4 coil or something is acting up? maybe try switching the coils around.
The right coil wire has a female end on it, and the left coil has a male end on it, you just need to make two jumper wires, both with one end bieng a female, and the other end bieng a male. and you should be able to switch the coils around for testing purpose`s. you`ll have to take them off and remount them, because the wires wont reach, but that should`nt betoo big a deal. heck, you`ve already done a ton of work to your max, and probley already know all of this, sorry, was`nt thinking.
man i really wish you would get a break, you sure do deserve it after all the work you have done.

yup al i have spare coils from my 93 vmax4 and i have 2 brand new coils.
lol your right i deserve this damn thing to work but it doesnt.
3+4 are out by over a centimeter. i figure its a 1-2 tooth jump.

heres the measurements i was talkin about. just in case anyone else wants to use them. i had them on a sheet and couldnt find them until later.
#1 tdc
#2 will be 3.5" top of spark plug hole or bdc
#3 2.5" to top of spark plug hole
#4 2.5" to top of spark plug hole
problems that it causes,
one side of motor hotter than other same with pipe temps
exessive fuel consumpsion
top speed of 75 or so mph and doesnt hit top speed
