I went to shim up the front end today and noticed that one ski has had the mounting bolt hole SEVERELY egged out and the other has a bit of slop starting. Looking at other people's sleds, I've noticed a variety of newer plastic skis being mounted to them.

Are there any particular specs to look for to ensure they will fit (or be easily modified) to fit our machines? I was sort of leaning towards a dual-runner ski, possibly from a Ski-Doo or Polaris. There have been a few on eBay lately and the only spec they really listed was that it could be mounted on a sled with a 3" spindle mount.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

i just have my vmax4 ski's fixed this year. they were egged out really bad too. and soon im putting on a alum plate

i took them to a weilding shop that specializes in aluminum. had them weld the hole shut and drill a new one.

grind them smooth.then take a piece of 1/8 thick alum or stainless steel and carrage bolt that over the hole redrill it from the other side and repeat. this should now never egg out. the bolt for the ski is long enough to do this simple mod. all thats needed is 4 carage bolts and a sheet of alum cut into 4 strips of about 3" x 3/4" + or - its totally up to how you want to do it. and that will do both ski's.

i have everything to do this mod but am waiting still summer to bolt it on.

you could also have these plates weilded in place while it is being fixed so there are no bolts to worry about hitting the bottem peice of the tss.

Oh, I'm still going to clean up the original skis, repair them and keep them in case I ever want to bolt them back on. In fact, I have a brand new aluminum welding kit sitting underneath my Lincoln SP135 Plus, so repairing them should be fairly easy.

However, I would like to upgrade to something a bit newer, possibly with dual runnners. But buying a brand new set of skis is expensive which is why I'm hoping to find out what to look for in a used set to ensure they'll bolt on with little modification and work well with the VMax-4.
