With the River freezing up it's our chance to visit family, hunt, go to other villages activities, fish thu the ice, and keep ourselfs busy in the long winter months. Thanks to the BIA this is where I'll live so I want to share a picture of our new home being built......

Maha,
It looks like they are coming along with your families house. They seem to be doing a good job from the pictures! I will give the workers ALOT of credit that they can frame outside in those temperatures. Great scenic picture - very awesome sight!!!

Looks like a nice place to visit but I don't know if I could live there.
Don't feel bad, it's takes a lot to be able to live here. There's no 7-11 or McDonald's no Auto Zone or Bank. The toughest thing about being here is the laws as there are none,,,common sense has to prevail.
Thought I'd post whats going on now...All inside work as the temp has been around -8F,,,,tho today it got up to 24
Been a while so thought I'd post how the house is going. Wasn't able to get any inside pictures yet. Some paneling, walls, and ceiling is in.

Looking good Maha. I use to have a job working outside where we started before the sun came up in the winter. The view wasn't as remote or wilderness looking as yours but it still brought an apreciation of winter beauty with it. How are you heating the house? Looks like a fuel oil tank there and I would imagine there is a wood stove or 3 inside.

Maha,
Wow, great progress on your house!! It does look nice. How much longer till you move in? I hope you get some steps at your door! LOL
Take care,
Doug
Heating is #2 stove oil, 3.96 a gal. It's a 110 gal. tank. No wood stove but I will ad one later. The stove is a MPI Monitor 2400 and it should keep the house warm. The insulation is R20 and R30. The windows are smaller no openings in the roof and raised above flood level, normal flood level that is.

Maha im just wondering what your job occupation is there? how much does a house go for there?

I like to see the progression. They're working hard, especially in those temps. Keep the pictures coming. I don't think I could live that far from 'things' though. :)
As for my occupation, retired because of health, the house was free, a grant thu BIA, the only thing is I can't sell for 25 years. Grant was for about 142,000 dollars. Covered the price of shipping, the building of the house and the house which included a stove, refrigerator, hot water heater, heat, water and sewer hookup, toilet, sinks and flooring.
It's not a place everyone could live in thats for sure and we make do with out alot on nice things. Prices are high here and most everything has to come in by air so shipping is costly.
The up side is we can do and go just about anywhere. Life is up to you and what you make of it is what it is. No traffic lights, no rush hour, no speed limit, no one to say you can't. And my wife stills makes bread.

Maha wow thats incredibable i cant imagine living there, i would love to go and visit,
i work construction in here, we work in alll temps with the building boom here ppl want everything built so fast and prices are sky rocketing, i just bought my first house 2 months ago it needs so much work sometimes i feel like starting all over again, i can't imagine building a house in those temps, what i hear they leave construction machinery running 24/7 because its so cold
do the cruise ships come near your parts?
No cruise ships here. Alaska is SO big the only way to get here is by air. 2 hours by air from Anchorage. Most machinery have block heaters now so just plug it in. Unless your way up north, then they do leave things running.

It's realy cool that you have been able to update us with all these home potos from way up in Alaska. Real interesting to see them Maha thanks.
Been awhile since I posted here but the house should be ready within 6 weeks to move in. Adding the molding to windows and tile to the floors and the water hookup.
In this picture they got the back door on now, need to add the steps next.
Been busy hunting and now getting getting ready for the caribou trip.
