View Full Version : My Vmax4 800 ST ´96
So, I´ll start this one here.
Like most of you know, I´ve been complaining about the lack of traction with the stock track.
Finally, here is the solution --->
http://i5.tinypic.com/14czd5t.jpg
Camoplast 136 RipSaw track with 32mm lugs (1,25 inch)
And I´ll be adding RDL´s Bender silencer to my sled also this summer + a rear rack.
So, theese are my plans for now anyway. I´ll keep posting soon as something happens.

is that the track with the biult in studs?
is that the track with the biult in studs?
Samueljackson has that track on his SRX 700. The one I got is without the studs.

Nice size rubber lugs on that track
Were you able to purchase it in your area Ike?
Yep. I just went to a local sled shop and bought it. :muahaha:
RDL , have you found out about that shipping....? LOL

Don´t know who ever tells you that 32mm lug RipSaw will fit to a Vmax4 800. I WON`T. TRACK WILL RUB COOLERS: so, I have to cut it a bit...

I borrowed my friends garage, and cut the track to clear the coolers. Also took it for a test ride. Seems to be working fine.

you might still have to shave some off once you hit 100MPH due to the track ballooning.my 2 cents

Lol, i woundnt say that much lol. Looks good man. I dont know if i would have the heart to cut a bounch off from a brand new track. I think I would be relocating the coolers somewhere else like under the foot boards like I see someone else did. But Im sure that was alot quicker and easier and wont make tons of difference overall, espicaly with some studs in there.
Well, the track cost me 320€ ( I got 100€ from the old ). So, when it was needed, we cut it. I´ll ride this season without studs, but next summer I´ll stud it. Have to fab some tunnel protectors though.

You will probably have alot more snow that i do in my area, so studds probably arent as nessasary as here where everything is ice. I have 144 on mine now, and it would be a dangerous joke to ride without studs on a v-4. Just for stopping alone as most of the trails here are little more than a single sled wide with alot of corners. We only get straight trails in the feilds and what not. So when in a trail, and you meet someone, you have like 20-30 feet, sometimes less to stop. That can be dangerous if one or both people are traveling fast or one guy dosent see the other on a blind corner. Always alot of accidents around here from people not paying attention.
Silver Talon, could you tell me in what pattern you studded your V4? I´d like some pics. And some pics of the tunnel protectors aswell... just to give a starting point. I´ve never studded a sled before so, I could use some help.

Heres some pics, As you can see my track is in dire need of replacment. The middle two are just offset staggered every other one, and the outside is repeated every 3, inside-middle-outside. As you can see, quite a few of the inside ones that are near the windows have been ripped out over the years. The track also has like 6-8k miles on it and 6+years too. So i dont know how secure the inside spots are in terms of longevity.

Got a few marks on it. But not ruined. Not sure if its from the current track and studs or the old one.
That is a lot of studs!!! I was thinking in amount of 100 or less or something like that. I looked up the Woody´s website, they had some patterns for the 121 track Vmax4, and one for 136.
Thank´s for the pics! Gives me ideas LOL

No problem man! The ammount of studs I belive really depends on how much ice riding you do. That is 144 studs on mine. For my area, thats the starting point really, 196 is ideal. If MOST of your riding is on packed trail/fresh snow, then around 100 would work. Also makes a difference on how long a track is. a 121 track with 196 studs will have close to the same studs on the ground as a 136 with 144 studs in it. So it all adds up. The last side is that it will ad a bit of weight to the rotating mass of the track. Dont know if your out to break the land speed record, but something to think about.

I fitted the low black windshield from Skinner to my sled. Had to adjust my handlebars too ( I have 1 inch rider on it ) since my hands were pretty exposed to the wind with the previous handlebar setup. I hope this is not too cold...

Ike - the stingers look awesome!! I would say the windshield may be cold - that is low! Sled looks great and I know you take good care of it.
Thank´s Doug!
I´ll be needing new strut cans as you can see...

I bought a red skidplate for my V4. I´ll post pics of the installation etc. soon.
Ike
It took about 1,5 hours by myself, but I did it.
I think the skidplate was meant to a 600 / 500 Vmax, but heyy, nobody´s looking underneath my sled... The shop where I bought the plate said it would fit Vmax-4, but I kinda knew they were talking bull. No one here keeps a stock of parts for theese sleds. I know that now.
