depends how the skid was mounted.

lift the snowflap and use a tape measure and see how much room there is to the heat exchanger.

i couldnt get much bigger than a 1" on it. i dropped the skid and put 8 tooth drivers on and now have a 1.5" i can go to 2" if i shave the track for the coolers

1 1/8" lug should clear but may rub a little if track is kept loose and at high speeds.

Alright so 1 inch no problems, even if i put skid extenders from 121 to 136 with an tunel extention?

The tightest clearance is at the rear upper idler wheels. Your extension should not alter this or anything else. I believe you should be able to run up to a 1 1/2" lug through the front drivers.

You may lower the upper idler shaft and gain more clearance. However, you will place more weight on the front end leading to heavier steering as well as changing the angle of force (energy) downward a bit.

There are ways to compensate for all this. The photos and dimensions are only to show the way a stock ProAction was mounted in the '97.

And most importantly - if this is going into a stock vmax 4, you must reinforce the tunnel.

i did the exact same thing as you with an .5 x 4 x 20 pieces of aluminium betwen both mounting points, is there any other place i need to reinforce?

That will span the area that was susceptable to cracking. The 1/2" thickness is overkill but it served the shimming needs too.

Even though the '97 vx800 came with a stock pro action, they kept the same tunnel reinforcement as the previous years and cracks could happen. One of the Yamaha dealers here told me he remembers getting a recall notice from Yamaha to change out the '97's reinforcing steel - there just was not a lot of '97s out there (none in his case) so he never had to do one.

I saw a heat exchanger from a Vmax4, man that thing was shredded by studs.
