Well I have always wanted a v-max 4, and just recently I have been thinking about selling my polaris because I only ride 250-450mi a year but I still want a sled and one with good power so I have been looking at v-4's alot. Anyways there is a 94 vmax4 for sale localy with 6,000 mi, it has aftermarket twin pipes and a few other mods. My question is how reliable are these sleds, and what kind of power difference will I notice between the polaris?

No, I havent even tried to sell it yet its not close enough to winter. And the v-4 I am looking at has rpc twin pipes, if that makes a difference.

Vmax-4's are bulletproof. Take care of them and they'll bring you home every time. It's not your typical snowmobile engine, it's more like having a car engine in your sled. Everything is beefed up to handle the torque and horsepower. They're pretty hard to break. Having said that, I tore the driveshaft out of the frame of my sled racing on the lake several years ago and I still drove it back to camp. Turns out that one of the bolts had fallen out of the speedometer housing on the end of the driveshaft. Had it repaired and out racing again the next night. I've never been stranded out in the woods in the 12 seasons I've been riding mine.
Not to influence your opinion, but there's a pretty sweet looking '93 on ebay right now, and it's not too far from us: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180025663850&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3ASS%3AUS%3A1
