Got a pretty good start on the 95 V800 - finished installing the 01 Pro Action - as you can see, I pulled off all the body panels - going to get them all painted - going with the ever so famous Darth Vader look - think I'm going to polish the tunnel for some accent - found a set of PSI's - going to have them coated - re-ring the motor - then just put her back together - hope to have it done in the next 4 to 6 weeks - I'll keep ya posted!

Hey Yammiman:
How tough was the skid conversion?
I will be doing similar to my 94ST, but going with a 04 Pro Action
& 136 Extension to match the ST configuration plus new track.
Also, what will you be using to strip the paint without messing up the quality
of the aluminum so it will polish out nicely.
I am on the fence whether to go with the "shiny aluminum" look on the tunnel as the "older sleds" ( SRX's Exciter's etc. ) had or stick with paint that needs to be touched up after scratches. Hard to beat that "shine" when its done.
Lookin forward to the pics.
Will be starting mine next month. Gonna focus on the skid here in the next few weeks. Clean it, new brgs where needed, probably powder coat supports etc.

Any kind of organic stripper will work without hurting the metal - "disappear" and "ready strip" I think are a couple
The skid wasn't too bad, but the sled had a ripsaw on it when I bought it and to get the proper clearance I had to tweak some of the dimensions that I got off from here from other Pro Action swaps (I have a couple extra holes to plug) - I used the rear mounting brackets from the RX-1 to get the height in the rear then I lowered the center upper idler shaft about an inch and everything seems fine - I run it on the stand and had no issues - the skid I used is off from an 01 SXR
Dude, is that your garage??? dang, I`m jeleous!! my garage is a total disaster!! not to mention hardley any room to do anything. even if it was like yours, it would`nt be for very long, I`m a VERY messy guy in the garage, stuff laying everywhere. LOL
cant wait to see it when she`s done, keep up the good work!!

Yammiman, Sled looks great!!!
? with the USI ski's are you using the snubber rubbers between the bottom of the strut and the bracket or not. I'm trying to fit a set of USI's off of a polaris and not sure if I should be concerned about the rubbers or not.

vmax535 - thanks - the sled came with the USI's on it and they do have the rubber snubber - I'm going to be putting the original aluminum ski's back on it if anyone is interested in the USI's
Ike - thanks
THEBIGGUY - thanks - I think I picked that stand up at the Novi show a few years back - it is real handy - I added a caster kit to it so you can roll the sled around while it is on it - you can pick them up at the show pretty cheap
just for an update, I have the tunnel polished and all of the body parts are at the paint shop - ordered new rings and pistons and will be tearing into the motor as soon as they get hear - I'll try to post some more pictures along the way

I'm not as far as I would like to be - Holiday's messed me up - got the tunnel polished and the body parts painted - have not tore into the engine yet - still trying to decide if I want to keep it stock or not - some mild porting with some PSI pipes would be fun!! - I'll post somemore photos as soon as I make a little more progress on it - the lack of snow is killing my motivation!! LOL :snow:

Instead of using a no-action you should find a mono from an 06 RX-1 way better skid, I had an M-10 in my 92 and that sled rocked but did a stupid thing and traded it in on my 03 RX-1, should have kept the V-max and just paid the cash for the new sled, Now Im finding it nearly impossible to find another one in decent shape.

I hear you on the skid, but for what I'm doing with the sled, the Pro will be good enough - it is going to be a hot rod/collector type sled that I won't be trail riding much if any - hoping to get back at it in a couple of weeks after I get my son's graduation out of the way - I'll update when I can!!

I had the same USI skis on my 97 vmax4 800 one cracked just in front of the tower bracket. It threw me about 50 to 75 yards. the sled rolled from corner to corner. keep an eye on them. all the flex in that ski is at that point. I got lucky I was in a field with no trees.
Yammiman, I have a very similar 95 vmax 4 project going and would be interested in some pics of your mounting holes for your rear skid because with my proaction skid installed with the the dimensions from the tech section looks pretty slim. I am going to be running a 9811 1/2" track with chisels, extrovert drivers and the sled will never see the trails. The proaction skid is in it because it was cheaper and less work than redoing the old skid. If I can figure out how to post some pics of it I will get them up. hman.
