I KNOW THERE IS A SET-UP ON THE TECH PAGE FOR HEEL CLICKERS ON A VMAX 800, BUT DID ANYBODY HERE TEST A SET ON A PIPED VMAX 4. TELL YA I JUST INSTALLED A HEEL CLICKER SET- UP ON MY 2000 SRX AND IF THEY WORK, I AM GONNA TRY THEM ON MY PSI QUADED 96 VMAX 800 ON THE ICE. ANY SUGGESTIONS HERE FOR STARTING POINT. 3:16 (tony)

I know that Jeff's sled (f272V4) runs very well with them, but he has stock pipes.

Tony, I'm here! I'll tell ya, been a long time since I have played with the setups & been a lot of memory cells that I have drank away but I will tell you everything I know. First, I DID NOT get them to work with the stock secondary clutch. I put the heel-x on and wow big diff. I had problems with heat on the primary before. Now, the thing just works. I have got 4 times the belt life. As far as grams I had to purchase extra ss bolts to get what I ended up with. I am still using what I think is on the tech page. Also, HC's dont like low gearing. I geared down & I actually was quicker when I went back to stock gearing. My gut feeling is you will want less weight in the heel for a higher engagement than I am at but you will need more weight in the ramp for piped v4. What I have on the tech page may get you close enough for a starter. Let me know what ur looking for & I will try to help any way I can. One question, are u the same Tony that told me to put them out in Mondays garbage? Shoulder = 5.1 Mid = 6.80 Tip = 4.85 = 67.70 Weight Red Spring = 230 – 350 Heel-X 80*

JEFF , GREAT TOO HEAR FROM YOU. GOT TOO TELL YA I MIGHT STILL TELL YA '' PUT THEM IN MONDAYS GARBAGE '' BECAUSE ITS REAL TUFF TOO BEAT 8BU.s. ESPECIALLY FOR RACING. THING I WILL SAY IS 8BU-00 ONLY TAKE YA SO FARR. TUNEING OPTIONS ON HEEL CLICKERS IS UNREAL. NOW, I JUST INSTALLED A SET IN MY 2000 SRX FOR DRAG,IN. STAY TUNED. AFEW HIGHER UPS THAN ME THAT RUN ALOT ON TY SWEAR BY THEM. ESPECIALLY IN A SRX. THANKS FOR A REPLYING. NOW JUST AFEW SIMPLE QUESTIONS.
1. THE 40-10 BOLT RIGHT IN LIKE THEY DO ON A SRX ?
2. I ASSUME YOU USE RED CLICKER SPRING, YOU SAY MUST HAVE TALL COVER. ALL MY 800,s CAME WITH TALL COVER BECAUSE I USE SRX SPRINGS.
3. WHY DO YOU SAY , VMAX SECONDARY WOULD NOT WORK. BECAUSE YOU DID NOT HAVE HELIX.
4. IF YOUR CLUTCH WAS GETTING HOT, WAS BELT SLIPING, MAYBE DEFFERENT ROLLERS WOULD OF HELPED.
5.WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT LESS WEIGHT IN HEEL IS MY THINKING TO, BUT THESE HAVE NOTCH FOR ENGAGEMENT.
6. YOU THINK YOUR SLED IS FASTER THAN MY 8BU SET-UP

ps, nice info for somebody who drank away their brain cells. lol

Tony,
You know, I will never knock ur 8BU set-up for dragging, but I run trails to. I have a very tame in and out of town set-up… Smooth at low speeds all day long. Yes, the 40-10 HC do bolt right in but to get the weight needed I had to go get all new ss bolts & nuts to get the weight up where I needed it. The kit did not (at that time) come with enough bolt on weight. The newer styles may be better now for the weight needed, not sure. Yes I did use the red clicker spring with the newer taller cover. Correction, I should have not said the stock secondary won’t work, but it didn’t work for me by just changing the primary to the HC’s. Like you pointed out I think I would have to try different rollers. I did try a couple different helix’s, but that was it. It was just to easy to bolt the heel-x on and that solved all the problems. I lost all the heat, got WAY better belt life & had great back shift at any RPM. It is true there is a notch for engagement but lowering the weight on the heel will bring up the engagement rpm. I am low ~ 42-44. I am running trail studs a 5K engagement would just not help me much. I doubt very much I would run with ur 8BU set-up in a drag race, but with chisels & additional tuning my guess is I have a good chance to be competitive. Master may be able to answer that better, he’s got a lot more experience in setting up his v4 & may be able tell how I run against him if the HC’s would stand any chance against the 8BU. One think to keep in mind is I am not piped & I run pretty well against him. I could hang on the difference he took me out of the hole to the end.

I can't say too much about about how Jeffs sled would run against that 8BU setup but I will say that I was very impressed at how your sled (Jeff) ran. I remember when we raced I had shaved down chisel track and you were running a trail track so it wasn't exactly an apples to apples comparison, I had a big advantage out of the hole when we were on the ice but then about half way down it turned to snow and then Jeff had some traction advantage there. Hard to say how it would have turned out had we both had comparable tracks.
Jeff, maybe if the river freezes this year we'll meet up again, I got mine all put back toether after I blew the chaincase out of it and I have a whole different more aggressive setup to start testing, I will be using the 8BU's and looking for that AC the beat me a couple years back, lol. Talk to you later.

AGAIN BUD YOUR A WEALTH OF INFO. ANYWAYS YOU ARE CORRECT THAT I ALSO THINK THESE HEEL CLICKERS ARE MORE AND MORE USER FRIENDLY VS WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT. AGAIN, MY SRX WILL TELL THE TALE FOR ME. I AM SO IN STONE WITH 8BU,s I BETTER NOTICE A DEFFERENCE. OR GOODBYE. I STILL SAY THE TUNEING OPTIONS ARE UNREAL. NOW ALSO KEEP IN MINE , MOST OF THE 8BU VMAX 800 SET-UPS I HAVE PASSED ALONG HERE ARE ALSO FAST TRAIL. TOO GO TOO A RACE APP. WITH THAT REQUIRES HIGHER ENGAGEMENT WHICH SOME DID NOT LIKE. THATS WHY I POSTED YA NEED 4500-5000. IT WOULD BE VERY INTRESTING A RACE SET HC VS MY 8BU. I HOPE HUGH WILSON POSTS ON THIS BECAUSE I THOUGHT HUGH TOLD ME THE 8BU WERE FASTER. I MIGHT BE WRONG. THIS IS WHERE I AM FIGUREING TOO START AT IF I DO THIS.

MOF, you said you took out the chaincase. 750 or 800? Why do you think the case went south on you?
Sorry Tony, don't mean to hyjack your thread, if this gets lenghtly I will start another one

I had a 94 750 chaincase in it originally with the 15 wide chain, pulled up to the line to make another pass and it snapped the chain on the launch, destroyed the case. I always kept fresh oil in it, kept it adjusted properly, and I had just checked the chain two days before and it seemed to be in great shape so I was a little upset that it broke, now I put a 800 driveline in it for the better secondary, one-piece shaft, and big chain.

MOF, are you pounding some hp to that chain case or a mild built motor?Reason I ask is because I have bought several 750 shafts and cases to convert from 800 to 750. Some machined for AC secondaries and some not. Was going to use a cat secondary in the improver this year, 750 shaft and case, 15 wide chain. I've heard this from only a few guys now, storys identical to yours. I've been told that if your going to throw the snot to the drivers, I need to stay with the 17 wide chain. Sounds like thats what you did. Thanks for the info.

Skinner when I took that chain out it was on a basically stock motor, nothing special at all, I was running a chisel track and bringing it in low at the time only about 4500rpm. Now it comes in alot harder at about 5600rpm and I don't think a 750 chain would hold up, but I suppose it could have been just a freak break, our 265hp turbo RX only runs a 13-wide with no problems so I don't know. I will say that when I run my Vmax-4 I run it ALOT, I mean when the racing is good sometimes I'll make 20 passes back-to-back until I get tired of riding it then I'll get my brother to drive it so that 750 chain probably had a couple hundred hard runs on it, plus some trail miles from when I still trailrode it.

I don't talk much about the " T " weight, but you have the best weight for a vmax-4 hands down.
start them out at 63 grams , if you need help with these i could give you the set up that pat gave me !!!
your et's will be lower & mph higher.

there ya go YamiG..hope it gives enuff detail...it's 10 mm wide by 3 mm deep, hawged out with dremel...it gives plenty of clearance even with this primary cut for full ride height...somebody mentioned spider contact..that'll happen if you install too many washers...not a good idea anyway as it puts too much weight off the pin axis...makes the weight try to twist as it shifts out..

HI,
I believe weight heel is hitting to moving half not the heel bolt?
I have three different versions of HC weights and for some of those you need to notch moving sheave more than another ones.
