1971 Yamaha SR433. This sled is the one that put Yamaha on the map. Winning the World Championship in 71 beating the 800s with a 440.http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p267/markxx800/92566620911_0_BG.jpg

When I was growing up it was all Ski-doo and Cat. The odd Polaris but hardly any Yammi's. I took a ride on a Exciter 440 one day and I was in love. I was only about 14 at the time and that was my "sled to have". When they came out with the black and gold color scheme in 1980 (I think) I spent so much time at the dealership looking at it that he was gonna put me on the payroll. I've never owned one, will buy one if I find one in good shape. I did have an 81 SS440 and that was a little light weight rocket too.

I really love my vmax4, so it´s number 1 for me. Close second is SRX700, after that 4-cylinder Apex. Hole new era on snomobiling on that thing. Vmax540 is also great... and Exciters too. LOL

Too many options!

Your right Ike, too many to choose.
I loved my Exciter SX, way better than the regular one. Hard to start when it was cold though with the high compression. Recommend that sled to anyone looking for an older second sled.
Fastest trail sled I ever rode was a SRX 700. Incredible in the twisties with crazy throttle response. No rear suspension, but you could pick you way around the bumps with ease.
The RX-1 for it's overall ability, haven't been on an Apex yet. Going 250+ kms without fuel has added a whole new dimension to riding. Makes for great late night rides without fear of not getting gas.

I was a die hard two stroke guy a "naysayer", until I rode, and later purchased a new 07 Apex. This thing is the Bomb!!
Don't get me wrong, I love my Max 4, but spending more time finding fuel than riding has been wearing on me as of late.
I will never part with my pride and joy, but I'll likely be riding a four stroke 150 hp sled that gets 15+ mpg on the trail.

My pleasure yammigod..this is a great thread you started!!

I know I`m only suppose to pick one, which i already have...but if i can..I`d like to add the yamaha SRX 600/700...i just love the looks of them!! a friend of mine has a 600, and I`ve always wanted one, their the sled I used to drool over, until I found my vmax 4..which was the first vmax 4 i had ever seen, or heard of..anyway, them SRX`s....run great, handle great (acording to my friend with one, which I believe) look great!!...the 700`s beat most 800`s at the time..whats not to love!!

I really enjoy my '97 V-Max 4. It is just a tough sled that is dependable as a Timex and fast. It's kinda cool how few of them there are.

I think I pushed a wrong button,,, I'll try again. I like this thing because it's a fabrication of mine. A somewhat replica of a GP643, with other stuff thrown in. 5522

LOL..yeah I noticed that too, and was wondering myself?...I think it might be a reflection though?, because I have defiantly always had my hood cables connected to the spring..so the cables, should`nt no way be able to end up showing there...

unless it had came unhooked or something and i forgot?
that pic was taken a couple years ago...

Cant decide...all of them had a special place with me.. Had an SS440 that was quite the little rocket. A 79(?) SRX that made me pull my hair out at times, but was blistering fast, An SRV that was a pleasure to own and ride. Several mid 80's Vmax 540s. And after lusting after the first Vmax4 I saw in the showroom way back then (I remember the price was $10,400 or $10,600!!) a long time passed, and now I own one.

Not sure what was best, but the puzzling and envious looks my 92 gets from all my Ski-doo and Arctic Cat friends shoot its way, Id say its the V4 that garners the most intrigue. Everytime I open the hood, or start it up (has a can on it) they just look on in a state of stuper.

I think they love it, but cant come to terms with their own feelings!

Sleds are like woman, they all have there own feel. I'd have to say my midnight ride 80 SRX from Big Moose back to Old Forge in 84? Had the throttle under the palm of my hand and basically never left up. Snow was deep and the trals were like a bob sled run with high bank corners. I don't think any other sled could do that.

It would have to be my 2001 SRX. I know it's not a vintage sled but I hear what you are saying Tommy. I remember one run up in Quebec from Mt. Laurier all the way to St Jovite. It's a 85 mile long raileoad bed and it's straight and flat. I had that throttle on the handle bars and the SRX railed throught the corners and never skipped a beat..

My 1980 300 Enticer Twin Special. It was the first Yamaha I owned and was absolutely bullet proof - I loved this sled. My buddies Citation 4500's and Cats were always breaking down and hard to start. Friends had Indy Trails as well and I could beat them in a short race and on a sideroad or lake up north I could roll along at 80mph indicated(their speedo's). This sled completely hooked me on Yamaha's and I would not have a couple V4's now without it. Since then I have owned 340 Enticers and a 1980 SRX440 in mint condition before my current stable.
