I'm still in the process of cleaning up parts and was looking for ideas. I've started pulling the wheels from my sled to change the bearings and clean them up. I'm striping the paint from them and looking for any ideas on masking them off to paint them. The only thing ideas I came up with was to mask them off with blue tape and use an exacto knife to trim out the openings. The other idea is to make a template out of mylar and use some sort of light spray adhesive to adhere it to the wheel.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I did what you said - used an exacto knife. Very time consuming but not as much as polishing the outside and inside of the holes!!
I had all the parts of the suspension powder coated just like on my 93 and totally got new bushings.
I still have 5 more idler wheels to go, then the 95 should be looking pretty good underneath!

I did a little more research on paint mask material and found some vinyl stuff that comes in a wide roll so you could cut it and cover the wheel with 1 piece and then trim with an exacto. Then I recalled that someone where I work actually had a roll of some really wide clear plastic/vinyl that may work. I just need to hunt it down and check to make sure the adhesive isn't too aggressive. Those wheels look great, and that Chassis, WOW!

I found the roll of stuff at work. It is a 3M product. It has a product code numer 2L42C on a sticker inside the tube. I haven't looked up what they call it, but it is a clear vinyl with a very light adhesive on it. They use it on parts to protect them from scratches when shipping them. It's like that static film that you see used to protect plastic from getting scratched, but this is thin, so it should be easier to cut with a razor knife.

The painters at the houses I work in use a blue film to cover the window glass,Its stickey on the one side and leaves minimal residue on the glass.I would imagine any local paint supplier would carry it,Not 100% on that though.

yeah, I painted a couple of my wheels..it was a total pain in the ass..

I`d realy like to just switch my wheels to something that is already colored..been thinking about purple wheels, but who knows if i`ll ever get the extra $$ to do so..
