hello everyone,
i have not posted much here at all. summer came along and my interests all went elsewhere (vmax still being in the back of my head though). i did want pipes for it, and maybe a bit more mods as well. heres the thing, though, i am 15 in grade 10 tech class. my teacher seems like a cool guy so far and has welcomed us to bring in any sleds, atvs, dirtbikes, lawnmowers etc. to work on in class. so, i was wondering if the vmax would be too difficult to work on? more specifically, put pipes on and maybe some more done to it if you guys think i can handle it. I've heard alot that, if i have to ask, then the answer is no. but, i do have a fair idea of how it works and my tech teacher knows a bit about sleds himself. i would also want to clean the carbs before winter as well, i know that it is not too difficult of a job. but as for adding pipes, that means carb tuning and jetting correct? i really wouldnt know wat else would go with the pipes and add performance. i also would not know what pipes to purchase ( i want quads no matter if i do them myself or have a local guy do it) im leaning to bender pipes. btw my crank is already welded. theres alot on my mind about the vmax and i dont want a super long and confusing post so ill leavve it at this for now. ive used search alot but i feel i need more specific questions answered for what id like to know. thanks for your time.

EDIT: quads are not really a must, maybe stock 800 pipes?

Welcome to the club! :schild27: :schild27:

There are some of us who come here all Summer because the Vmax-4 is always on our minds. Mine sits in the pole barn where I can see it all Summer, wether I touch it or not. Ask all of the questions you want to here, somebody has done it and will have an answer for you. Fill out your signature at the bottom and let us know what year your sled is and what mods are done that you know of. Go here: http://my.opera.com/Mark_the_Shark/blog/ and download the service manual if you don't already have one. That will answer a lot of your questions and will walk you through maintainence procedures. With pipes you usually have to re-jet the carbs and change a clutch spring. That information should come with the pipes if you buy them new, or you can ask here and somebody will know. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and post some pictures of your sled. We love pictures!:vmax4: :i_need_sn

I think you can handle this if you just go slow and watch what you are doing. If you are able to tear down carbs and clean them......You should have no problem jetting, and I am sure a few guys hear can give you a conservitive base line to start from....clutching, well that is fairly easy as well, and will give you a good chance to give it a good cleaning. Dig in and I am sure bunch of us here will help if you need......Like said, down load the manual.

Oh, welcome!!!

Theres a few pic of her. its a 93 with stock pipes i beleive and cans (not sure who the cans are made bye) as i said, crank has already been welded. the vmax is actaully always on my mind lol. its just the project i had in mind slipped away over the summer, but now i have all the tools i need in my tech class so i should be good to go. ill definatly have more questions in the future, my school is brand new this year so we are unpacking alot of stuff from the old school and that is taking some time up. i believe ill have the vmax4 in by monday though hehe. Oh, and is there actually any performance gained out of installing fmf boost bottles from the banshee? i know they look alot better then stock lol.

thanks very much yammiegod. thats funny how it is around the same age as me. i know there is no other sled like it, so i try to appreciate the fact i ride an old dinosaur. plus i really havent heard a sled that i really like as much as it hehe. nothing beats the 4 cylinder sound :vmax4: i love how it turns head and people dont really know what it is. only thing i dont like is how much gas it drinks, its hard when i have to pay for my own fuel lol.

Yeah man, 1993. Got one just like it in the pole barn.

I think it's cool that a 15 year old has the internet to learn more about this sled. When I was 15 the internet hadn't been invented yet.
