Howdy Folks. Well I finally got what I wanted for many years, A Vmax4. I bought a 92 with a running engine (I heard it) and good bodywork, wiring, front suspension, exhaust but no skid, track or seat. This will be my winter project, a complete tear down and recondition, as I already have a 95 Vmax 600 to ride and dream about the 750 with.

I started a while back with an 83 SRV 540 I got from my brother (el cheapo) and after cleaning the nuts and nest out of the airbox ran like a champ. I clutched, piped, and stuck an extra 12 under it. What a ride. I sold that last year and bought the 95 Vmax 600. In hindsight I should have kept that SRV. That was a fun, snappy, lightweight toy.

Anyway the 600 was like a boat compared to the SRV. I GYT twin piped, setup clutches to specs gathered from the TY board, cleaned and jetted the carbs, added a camoplast 1" with 96 woody's on center and now have a nice ride actually. Those pipes and the jetting really woke that boy up. I recently aquired an Xtra 10 for the 600, but I may save that for the 750 and leave the 600 stock.

So, This is a great site here and I have already found info that I used for my 600. I'm looking forward to getting to know you folks, btw Sacha, I don't think I'll be visiting the 540 board much anymore as I don't have that sled, but I might need to pick your brain on the 750 though.

I'm located in Manawa, Wi. I seen that the people from the TY board have alot of goings on in Wi and the UP. Maybe sometime this year I can get to join in on one of those outtings.

During the summer I restore Honda V4's. I personally own three of them two V45's and one V65, all Sabres. I guess I'm kinda partial to older muscle bikes, cars and sleds. Hence my purchase of the 92 Vmax4.

I was an ASE certified auto tech for almost twenty years. About seven years ago I got out of the repair biz and took a job as a fleet manager (the reasoning for my handle btw) for a construction company and haven't look back since. The pay is mucho better and there is no questioning about repairs as if it's broke it's not making money for the company.

Later, Ron

Welcome to our club! :schild27:

We were wondering who the "lurker" was! There's a paper service manual for your sled on ebay right now. Look in the classified section for the link I posted. I have the digital version posted on one of my web pages. If you've been lurking around, you may have already seen it. Lotsa great guys here who can answer any questions you have, so ask away!

Welcome to the site, post some pics of your sled when you get a chance. There were quite a few factory service updates done to the 92, I can give you some of the info on the updates if you are interested.

Welcome!

I also started with my brother from a SRV. That sled still is in the garage, with a ´84 Vmax540 and his MOD Exciter.

Remember, we love pics. Especially winter pics and repair photos. And th stories behind them.

Welcome aboard fleetman:

I can relate to the SRV sleds. After the Exciter's of 78-79-81 I went to a 81 SRV, then had a 83 & 85 then back to the Exciter's in 87.

Kinda wish I still had one of those SRV's, very cool sled in its day.
Dependable as hell & ran respectable.

Good luck with the "rebuild" & as stated by others, post pics, before during, after etc. Always cool watching a sled get re-worked.

Thanks for the welcome.

I am going to pick it up this weekend if the guy is going to be home. He was unsure if he was going to be home.

Turbo, I go through Hortonville every day. I work near the airport in Appleton.

Nate, Ya its still there. It was K+H Tap. I got the heeby jeebies out back there many a time. I grew up near Northport, so Manawa was in my back yard. Lots a :eck02: there in the day

I've been readin' up on the 92 and think there is going to be a lot of work for me. I know the first years always have bugs that need to be worked out. I want this to ba a dependable sled. I'm contemplating a full tear down and recondition from the chassis up. If I can wait that long. I also find that parts are not that easy to come by for these old steeds. They are also a bit on the high rent side as far as price goes too.

Compared to my 600 what can I expect? I got a feeling that handling and ride aren't going to be much better, but what about power? My 600 is no slouch, she has plenty of (grunt) for lack of a better term. I thought I read somewhere if a Vmax4 has pipes and she comes on the pipe you better be hanging on. True? I do know that when you grab a handful of throttle on my V65 Sabre and she hits 6 - 10K you "better" be hanging on. That bike actually scares me sometimes. But I Like It !! :D

As for the bugs most had to do with clutching, parts prices are not too bad just shop around.

As compared to a 600, yes handling is about the same but once you get the clutching dialed in on the 750 it's over.
I will add that unless you get a good track to put the power to the ground all you do is sit and spin.
Add a set of quad pipes for around 155-165 hp depending on manufacturer.

Welcome ! There is a big difference in power between the 2 sleds. I think the extra weight makes it more stable and controllable on the trails. With the extra power things will be coming at you much faster so be carefull slowing down with that brake, or you will be yelling FULL FLAPS !
