I've owned a 1997 vmax4 800 for 6 years now bought it from my neighbor. I just don't see to many 97's. I didn't realize i had the biggest of the big reds. it was my first snowmobile so I guess I didn't realize what I had.
Ive tried others but nothing pulls like a vmax4.

I am thinking they sold a few more in the US, but we cannot get confirmation on the total numbers.

I guess I have a one of a kind. To bad I didn't know that when I bought it I would have taken better care of it. It was the sled I learned to ride with and it has been through some abuse. Hit a tree. rolled it a few times.and the USI ski cracked right in front of the support and threw me 50 to 75 yards and the sled did one of those nice corner to corner rolls a few times. Good thing it was in an open field. It is still rippen. It has a few modifictions. The skis are polaris with twin carbide, The front shock and spring on the rear suspension was replaced with one from a 600 deluxe which improved the ride and the turning, and I have a bender muffler. I just sent the clutch to Pats Yamaha in the UP to go through it. they did the setup. I'm thinking about putting a ripsaw track on this year. What do you think? The best part is that it still keeps up the the new ones. It's a tank, but I wouldn't trade it in.

Tell Pat and Kip I said hello, I bought Kips open mod a few years back. Kip runs a 95 Improved Stock Max-4, his sled is pretty stout,,,,good guys

I want to replace the floats and needle and seats who do you recommend for carb work. The motor is to expensive to fix because of a rookie mistake.

What's the reason for replacing the above parts?

If you have access to a service manual you can do it yourself.

figured after 9000 miles it should be done. Figured While I had it appart to clean it would be a good Idea. You don't think so? Heh I'm open to suggestion. That and I'm one of those guys that waits til the night before we go to get ready and do my preventative mantiance. I dont' have a manual. I've done it before on other motors, but they weren't as costly to fix. I had to have a bearing replaced two years a go. had to send it to a place in wis.
I replaced the pistons and rings myself. I didn't screw that up. Where can I get the the specs for the floats. what oil do you recommend in the front gear case.
