Hey,
I have a 1997 800. At the end of last year, I blew the #4 cylinder. I got the cylinder re-sleeved. The domes had a couple of nicks in them from what was left of the rings. I cleaned those up with some emry cloth. Now all i need to do is make sure that nothing got into the crank case. Is there a drain on the case? and do i need to flush it out? what should i do to make sure that i don't have anymore problems with it this year?

also, i noticed that there is a drain plug, but it looks like it is a seperate resivor, and a shaft from the primary clutch is going into it? is this the drain for the whole case? How much oil do i put back in?

P.S. this is just a top end rebuild.

thanks for your help!!!

That plug you see is just for the pto, it will not drain the whole case. There really shouldn't be anything in the case to drain unless you poured something down there.

The best way to clean it out obviously is to split the bottom end, pull the crank and clean everything.

Some guys will cram a rag in the case rotate it around under the crank, but isn't going to get the small stuff out of the bearings.

If you don't want to take it apart, probably the best way would be to fill the case with gasoline or kerosene and rotate the crank around, then flip the motor over and dump everything out (or flip the sled with the hood off if the motor is still in it) then blow everything out with compressed air, repeat that 3/4 times and you should be good to go.

You are going to run one sleeved cylinder or the motor has already been completely sleeved?

Did any steel items break in the melt down? If just aluminum then you could do what MoF says, but use gas and premix it with allot of oil. That way any left over gas lying in the bearing races will at least have oil in it. Then you need to add some oil back in and work it into those bearings again by dumping oil down into the case, then rotate the crank whil tipping the motor on it's side so it flows into the bearings. I always leave enough oil in the bottom so when the porkchops rotate they just touch the puddle. It will smoke like a bitch and such but never had a single problem after a rebuild...Blue
