The owner is a member here, and I will let him decide how much he wants to disclose about this project.

Yes, this is my custom built Turbocharged Vmax-4 that a few of you have known bits and pieces about for a while. It has been a 6-month project that has exceeded all our expectations!

Lets just keep this simple when I say the sled dynoed well over 200+ "TRACK" horsepower and makes a good 400+ "CRANK" h.p. This is all I will say about this sled, other than keep in eye out at the speed runs.

This project is the result of 5 years of complete trial and error to create what we have now. I've spent litterally hundreds of hours designing, drawing, fitting and fabricating for this project, not to mention the finacial investment involved.

I would like to say Thank you, to Vmax-4 (Curt Wald), Big Bore 904 (Paul Susenka) and Cat88 (Glenn Hall of D&D Racing) for all the help to dial this project in and make it what it is. Glenn is a wealth of knowledge on clutching and general snowmobile performance as evident by his "World Record Setting" D&D/Boondocker F1200 Turbo sled.

Thank you,
Justin Durand

Awesome sled, Justin! :4fzfk2: :4fzfk2: :4fzfk2:

Obviously a lot of time, not to mention $$$, goes into building a machine like that. I hope it turns out to be as reliable as it is good looking! Looking forward to some more pics or videos. I would tell you to have fun, but that would just be silly of me.:smilielol :smilielol Who wouldn't have fun on a sled like that?

Well done. I am with shark though. I would love to see some more pics. Keep you're secrets to yourself and only show what you want. Thats fine with me but if that BADD BOY looks as good from the side as it does from the front with the hood off it's just not fair to keep it from us. It's like getting a peek at the cover of Playboy when your a kid and not being able to see the centerfold. Lay it out for us. PLEASE!!!!

Thank you for all the compliments about this loonnnggg project! However, at this time I'm keeping everything on the down low. Sorry, but no more photos or info. on my turbo kit or sled, this needs to be where this all rest until speed run time! Thank you all again.

Hey Quad
looks very interesting
cant believe you spent all this time to go fast with cable brakes !!!!!

as a TZ750 wrench and rider this project you built has alot of reliability provided you dont buzz it
yamaha had some wild versions of this motor and it held up well to many insane mods
they got nearly 300 hp on special race fuels but couldnt keep pistons in it
kenny roberts had a flat tracker made giving him over 250 hp and he raced it once and asked for it to be put in a museum...it was shredding tires, never hooking up
so guys this looks wild but it is much tougher in design than we give it credit for
it will be interesting to hear numbers as this gets some hard time on it
then we'll se why i say "YAMAHAHA...we always get the last laugh!"

Well done Quad!!!

On a mission, seen it through and the results are in the picture. Hopefully in a few weeks it will have a new coat. Should be a good show at the weenie roast

We built the sled to break 1000' speed records, we'll worry about stopping some other time, LOL!

No that is being taken care of...just didn't get around to swapping the cable break yet.

When I read the title on this thread I was like hell no I know of one that I would put up against it. Then to my surprise after I opened the thread up I was like damn it is the same sled. Can not wait to see it run.

I have to say. I can't believe you put a big propeller right behind the driver... I guess that is incentive to hang on tight!

Sweet sled.

There is this one on Detroit Craigslist with a turbo in it.

Hey Thanks for the comments guys and yes the Turbo Vmax-4 has undergone some "MAJOR" changes for 2009's speed run season.

I guess I can't tell you how many nights I've worked in the shop on this sled since July going from 8:00 pm at night to 4:30am and then go work a 14-16 hour day at our business, but the rewards are now there!

To start, I once again tore the monster to the bare chassis, where I started by fully stripping anything that wasn't needed. The aluminum bulk head has been fully machined which dropped another 6-pounds, I can't count the number of new items fabricated, stripped or machined to achieve the weight we are now at. Last season the sled weighed 555 pounds "wet" with fuel and slide lube. Now Quadzilla has dropped all the way to 485 pounds "wet" w/ 1-gallon of fuel and 1-qrt of slide lube, now keep in mind this sled has a 24 pound turbo, aluminum air boxes and ect. That sled is basically a feather in the wind for a "production chassis".

I also completely revamped my turbo kit/setup as I find more positive improvements to make each season. I am now using a much larger Garrett turbo, increased fuel system and "X" more pounds of boost. The hard thought to believe is the sled is now making over 100+ h.p. more than it did last season.

So its pretty easy to do the math for this season 100+ h.p. more and 70 pounds shed off the sled (16 of those pounds are rotating mass). We ran in testing a best run of 149 mph in 1000' late last year with the old setup. This year the "ultimate goal" is to be the first "full-body" snowmobile to reach 160 mph in 1000', but anything over 155 will be considered a seccess. Also I will be driving the sled this season as I've dropped 60 pounds of body weight since last spring.

Stay tuned....

Quad, I must say you sound determined to break some records this year.

Folks, for those of you who have not had the opportunity to see (or HEAR) this machine, it is just simply incredible. I was fortunate enough to see it up close and watch the runs at the weenie roast last year and am looking forward to seeing Justin run it this year.

That engine has the sweetest sound I have ever heard.

I believe there is (was) a post somewhere on the board here that linked to a clip of one of speed runs. If you haven't seen it check it out.

Ron
