Tony,I posted earlier my setup on my 92. I had the tall cover w the w/w/w/ spring. I needed 4 shims to get engagement to 4500. We thought maybe the spring went south even though I bought it new from yamaha a month ago.I just got a blue spring from hauck this week to compare. I put it in with no shims and engagement was about37-3800 rpm.WTF!! So I put the blue spring in with the short cover. 4200 rpm. Then added 1 shim which got me to 4400.I guess I will try it with the short cover and see how it works out. The blue spring is about 1/8 inch shorter than w/w/w/. I put the caliper on the coil and the w/w/w/ is actually a hair bigger in dia. than the blue. The blue spring was a powder blue color like a pontiac engine color. The tall cover I bought new this year. I believe it was a 8df 00 on back. The short looked like 88r or something. It was hard to read.I wonder why mine is so different. Rick

THAT PONTIAC COLOR BLUE HAUCK, I THINK HAS BEEN CHANGED. HE HAD AFEW BREAKING PROBLEMS AND BEEFED UP THE '' BLUE '' WITH A EXTRA COIL. I THINK SOMEBODY HERE AT POSTED A PICTURE OF BOTH. YOUR PROBLEY GONNA BE FINE, WITH THIS HAUCK SPRING YOU HAVE AND 1 SHIM. 4500 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER HERE. I AGREE THIS IS WEIRD, THAT W-W-W IS A SRX TALL COVER SPRING. ALSO DON,T RUN 4 SHIMS , WAY TOO MANY. NO MORE THAN TWO. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Yer probably right Yammiegod. All my clutches have 88r spiders even my 98-srx clutch . Do you suppose I could just add more shims than what you would normally run in them???

Best I can get with Hauck Blue with short cover on my 92' is 4200rpm engagement with two shims. I've got another shim but I probably won't install it. 4200 is fine for me.

just curious..when you guys check for engagment rpm..do you somewhat slowly give it the gas? or quickly? I can get my engagment to kick in anywhere from around 3800rpms to 4500+rpms depending on how I do it..if I slowly rev er up, its higher..if I blip the throttle a time or two first, I can get it to engage much lower..

4500 IS THE NUMBER I LIKE TO SEE WITH MY FAST TRAIL VMAX 4 SET-UPS. AL HAS A POINT. ENGAGEMENT WILL BE HIGHER SLOWER YOU INCRESE THE THROTTLE. PROBLEM WITH THAT IS NOBODY WILL SIT THERE AND WAIT FOR THEIR CLUTCH TO ENGAGE WHEN THEIR READY TO GO.
AFEW THINGS THAT AFFECT CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT.
SPRING
WEIGHTS
COVER
ROLLERS

I put the short cover on my sled w/hauck blue and 1 shim. Engagement 4500. Right on the money. I took it across the street and got on it as far as I could. Track ratcheted like crazy.Obviously things are looking up. Tightened up the track and it pulls pretty hard now. Slight overrev now. 8600 rpm's.I had the sec. set at 80 so I backed it off to 70. Haven't had a chance to recheck. It seems to be getting close now.If backing off the sec. doesn't help I may add heavier rivet to weight.I'm at 54.9 right now. Does that sound right? Thanks Rick

SOUNDS GREAT RICK. ENGAGEMENT IS NICE. RPM IS TO HIGH. PERFECT WORLD, YOU SHOULD BE AT 8350. BUT KEEP IN MIND NOT ALL ENGINES ARE ALIKE. ADD WEIGHT TO TIP UNTIL RPM DROPS. 3:16 (yammie tony)
