Has anyone had a bearing noise from the vmax4 motor? It comes and goes.It sounds like the water pump when you listen to it with the scope. Some noise off the front pto but not at the bearings.I think that the noise is just traveling threw the gears. Are bearing common to go in the pump?Only 1900 miles.
Any thoughts?

Has anyone had a water pump go?
I've never heard of one going, but that doesn't mean that yours isn't. Could it possibly be a crank bearing going? Probably worth finding out where the noise is coming from before it lets go.

Yes I agree a crank bearing letting go can make a mess in the top end as well. I would drain the oil from the gearbox and look for debree in it maybe it is in the gears. I would find the problem before I run it again or it could do some major damage.

I have changed the bearing on the front PTO at the clutch end It was making a noise and was hard to tell were the noise was comming from when I checked it had a lot of play changed bearing and haven't had any problem since.

k thanks tons
Hey...check out this thread, and my post #14 in this thread...
I had a pretty bad sounding rattle when I first got my blown up vmax4 back together, and thought for sure something was screwed, like a crank bearing or whatever...anyway, I found that it was my primary clutch wieghts making a racket..

The water pump helped the noise. The PTO clutch bearing seal is gone.Going ta try that also. Thanks Al I`ll look at the weights too.

Intersting thread, i hear a similar noise coming from the PTO side of my motor...assumed it was the clutch, as soon as a i raise the rpm a bit it goes away.
Thats EXACTLY how mine was/is...when I give it just a bit of gas, the noise goes away..and as mentioned before..it was my weights..
