Okay this has been bugging me for awhile, and I am starting to feel bad about having a 750 compared to an 800, haha. What are the main differences they added from '92 to '96, in engine, chassis, suspension, cosmetics etc.. If I am to keep my sled (still in debate) I need to know what needs to be improved and what is fine the way it is.
As you all know, you are all great help,
Thx, Lewis

I beleive the difference between the 92-94 and the 95-97 were 10hp extra, different windsheild and the 97 had hydraulic bake and long travel suspension.

Nothin major in the suspension department until you get to 97. The 800's obviously have more motor, 5-10 more hp than the 750s. The 800s have a much better driveline, they have the newer open face style secondary and a solid one-piece jackshaft as well as 17 wide chain and gear set.

Whether you want to upgrade is up to you, I upgraded my 750 with the 800 driveline, and the motor, well, you can do anything with the motor, but pipes are a quick pick-me-up.

HUGE DEFFERENCE IN SECONDARY CLUTCHES, REEDS, INGINTION (cdi) PIPES, HEADS, CRANK !! etc. BUT 750 WILL GO LIKE HELL WITH 800 EXHAUST ON. 3:16 (tony)

Was`nt there talk last year of the 750 stock hanging with the 800 stock on full speed runs? It seams like i remember that bieng said? iether way, I would`nt feel bad at all owning the 750, its not like there is a huge difference in HP. the 750 from what I`ve heard, just loves the top end.

Man, the more i think about it, the more I`m getting bumed you feel that way? this kinda reminds me of a few people I know, that have harley sportsters and I`ve taken them to some big gigs, and one day, they ended up telling me they felt bad because they were on sporsters instead of a 1340 or whatever. I know this is off, but to me its kinda the same thing. anyway, once they realize, that thier "slightly" smaller engine sportser can blow by me and many of the other "big" bikes off the road, with a few simple mods, thier the happiest campers in the world. I geuss what I`m saying, is a sportster, and or a vmax 4 750, IS NOT second rate. thier a couple of the badest machines in thier class (harleys, & snowmobiles) sure each one has a bigger brothert, that is slightly more advanced, or has a slight bit more HP. but still. thier the shizz. Vmax 4`s rule, NOT just vmax 4 800s. like yammie god always says, its in the setup. even if the other guy has a 800 that runs very well. but you have your 750 dialed in, and setup just right, you would`nt be feeling bad about that 750 anymore. okay guys, I`ll quite now. but just had to say how i felt about the vmax 4s. they ALL rule. its not vmax 4 750 against vmax 4 800s, its vmax 4`s, against the rest!!:no_bashin

I own a 92' and love it, put over 10,000 miles on the original drivetrain - chassis now has over 20,000 miles on it.
Like MOF did I upgraded my drivetrain as well as transplanting an 800 powerplant under the hood.

Get a set of psi quads and you will make the same hp as an 800.....in a drag with perfect traction..ie grass or ice you will probably be quicker with the 750 because of the larger diameter secondary....you actually start off in a lower gear with the 750.

Seems to me that teh 92 made like 135 hp, the later 750's were 140, and the 800's were 150 aprox. From what I have gathered on here, alot can be made up in just the pipe swap 750 vs. 800. (5-10 hp) that leaves the remainder in the port timing....can't do any thing about displacement(with out changing alot) so sound like us 750'ers can get close to the hp numbers of the 800. The 800 is a more refined machine, heavier drive train, better porting.ect When I started looking for a Vmax4 I was not the least bit interested in the 750...800 or nothing. I now have a 92 750 sitting in the garage. I absolutly love this thing. I have not even riden it yet.....But I have swapped the drive train out to the 800, chain case, drive axle, extravert drivers, psi quads, (jetting and clutching to come) geared down...now (thanks to skinner) I have a polished tunnel thats going on, and a 144 proaction suspension with a ripsaw track. At this point I wouldn't trade it for nothing! I mite park a new one next to it in a year or 2. seems most of the short coming the earlier 750's had, can be over come. With the help of this web site and the great people that are on it.......I wouldn't feel the least bit bad about owning the 750 vs. 800.....besides, who leaves them stock? My sled is only a platform to start from. can you really call it yours till you have busted a couple knuckles wrenching on it? This summer the motors coming out, welded crank, the base gasket trick, newer style pistons, shave the head. Good times to come my freind. 3ft

I wanna get an 800 in mine.. As much power as we can get without turbo, nitrous, nitro, and boring it..

Thanks guys, it's not really that I feel bad about owning a 750 compared to the 800, in fact right now I wouldn't want any other sled (except maybe for jumpin) it's just that I was looking at all the things I want to do to it and it just seemed the 800 was a better start, but if the biggest thing to upgrade is the drivetrain, excluding motor, then it doesn't seem that bad at all, and yeah I'm seriously looking into getting a set of quads, though I don't know where to start, there don't seem to be many around. And don't worry 3ft, I have some tricks I'm gonna pull outta my sleeve, better watch out :0, :D.
Thx, Lewis
