I need a new belt for my Vmax600 '94 and at work we have shelves full of belts to BR250's (89X) and also some 87X-type belts. The 89X doesn't of course fit the Vmax but the 87X is almost the same(width, lenght, height) as the recommended (89L-type) except the angle is slightly different, from 87X's 30±2' degrees to the 89L's 28±1' degrees. Am I saving in the wrong place now if I put the 87X-belt and will it cause slippage or should I just buy the correct belt(89L) for my Vmax?

One website said that both(89L+87X)fits the Vmax600 but in reality how is it? I'm just wondering about the angle; wrong angle and the whole surface of the belt isn't touching the clutch plates and causes slippage OR few angles here and there doesn't make any difference?!

Use 89L belt then your clutch and secondary will work proberly. I have tried different belt but orginal belt is the best. These are just my experiences with late vmax 600...

And belts there are cheap ....:) :D

Yes, compared to Vmax4's diamond coated, gold reinforced belts ;) I'll just dig my pockets and buy the proper belt or actually two, one spare belt. I really don't want to walk (again) many kilometers because no spare belt...
