Although new to this site, I've owned a 93 V-max4 750 for about three years. Great, fast, gas-eating machine!! However, like many posters on this site, the 93 suspension stinks (I'm thinking about buying a back brace. Ha!). This summer I'm going to try and replace the rear suspension. I'm looking for recommendations of suspensions that would "fit" my 93. I started looking for wrecked sleds that I could use the suspension for my V-max but would like some recommendations (type/year) on exactly which ones would work best. My back needs help!!

Here are some pics of "black beauty" taken this year in Errol, NH. No decals on my hood as it needed MAJOR repair after a friend of my son rolled it. Also notice the "lowrider" suspension even without me not on the sled (sarcasm!!). The second photo is our group all with newer sleds. However, of all the others, only one could beat my trusty v-max.

Welcome to the site! :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Looks to me like you've got a '92 Vmax-4. You're right, the stock suspension wasn't built for a Cadillac ride out on the trails. I put a ProAction suspension from a 2003 RX-1 under mine several years ago and it made a world of difference. It wasn't a direct bolt-in, but I wanted to stick with the Yamaha skid didn't really want to shell out the money for an M-10, ExpertX, etc. There are several guys here that have installed various suspensions for the same reason. Use the search feature and you will find a lot of options. Now I wish I had kept the stock suspension around, just in case I ever decide to go racing.

Welcome....Indeed you will find all the info you need here, either already posted or somebody will jump in and tell you. I and lots of others have put in proactions....I have 500 miles on mine and been great so far. Like others said....That sled looks like a 92...or atleast 92 side pannels are on it. Once you know what you are going to put under it...then talk to those people that have already done it. I like the proaction swap myself, been done enough people can help, and you can find them cheap. Good luck.

Maybe it is a 92 but the guy (a friend) I bought it from said it was a 93. Doesn't really matter to me as I love riding this sled. I also have a 98 ski-doo machZ 800 but I find my V-max more fun (and sounds better). I have started searching this site about suspensions but I don't get a feeling of the differences between the types (M-10, proaction, etc.). I'll keep searching and reading recommendations. Hopefully I find a thread that shows how to install also. Thanks for the inputs.

Welcome to a really great site!!:653:

LIke Daman says, real men ride the stock sh**ty skid...
Then they go for back surgery!!!:4fzfpi:

I went with a 04 RX-1 skid on my conversion. Very happy with it. The ride is great. Here are a couple pics of what my 94 looks like with the 04 skid.

As stated by others here, lots of pointers, tips & guidance on this site for the conversion.

Good luck, you will not be dissapointed with the change.

There is some information for clutch upgrades for your '92 on the tech page, along with a bunch of technical bulletins. That just might help you get past that last sled. :D :D :D

98 ski-doo mach z 800. Second to the right in the picture. It's not stock. Bored out, race pipes, etc.

Mine....just plain stock 92!

Hi, you said it all, the sound. Oh yes the sound. I installed a suspension from a 00 SRX in my 92. It is great. So many adjustment posibilities. Maxximum did my shocks. Made them 11.5 travel. Also set up the front shock one stiffer spring than the stock SRX. Works great. Only thing wrong is I don't know enough about adjusting it. Must study up. I have a reversable template I can copy if interested.

I just picked up a suspension from a 1998 skidoo mach Z 800 (used and missing a few parts) in good shape. I think it's a sc-10 suspension (stock from the Mach Z)?? Anybody in the know?? Also I haven't found it but is their someone somewhere on this site who's installed the sc-10 and has the measurements and details?? I'm searching but not found what I ned yet. Thanks in advance!!

I've read all the posts and although they give a lot of good info, I need to know if anyone has the specific measurements and "instructions" to install the SC-10 suspension in my 92 VMax. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I finally got an e-mail from someone who put a SC-10 suspension into his sled. I'd appreciate any comments or corrections to his reply. I'd like to get this suspension in before I have to work in the snow.:3speechle

My Question: I got a suspension (SC-10?) off a 98 skidoo mach Z 800 for free (needs a few parts...what do you expect for free). I want to install it into my 92 Vmax. I could use all the help, measurements, hints, tips, photos, etc that you might provide me. If you know anyone else that can help me that would be appreciated.

Answer: The sc-10 fit bolts on in the front and you may use two of the holes in the back
Nothing to drill
The sket from the suspension will be very close or in between the drive sprocket
It does not matter,,,,,
You will also need to adjust the track until it stop skipping ( cause by the more open angle off the suspension compare to the original one ,,, 7 inches instead off 10.
Enjoy the ride

My Question: Thanks for the info. I take it that I just drop the suspension off the Vmax and bolt the SC-10 back into the existing bolt holes. Did the SC-10 suspension require any spacers to fit the tunnel sides on the Vmax?? Also, I take it that you have to keep the track pretty tight to keep from skipping on the drive sprocket. I guess I have some work to do.

Answer: You will have to get two shaft made to the lenght off the vmax one
If you have the sc10 one with you it will help
The tunnel off the vmax is wider then the bombardier one
Also the shaft are not the same thickness
If I remember correctly, the front shaft on the sc-10 is thinner then the rear one
So its very important to have them made to spec’s
When done,,, the sc-10 will slide from side ti side on the shaft,,,,
All youll have to do is secure it with a locking ring on both side
The front shaft is a bolt on into the front hole
And the back is simply hooking to either the rear hole off the tunnel and or in 2 of 3 holes that is in the rear brakect
I remember that I was using only 2 bolts on that bracket
You’ll see that is it very easy to figure it out

The shaft are the complicated portion off the swap cause the vmax shaft wont fit in the sc-10
I hope this will clarify a bit,,,,,

Getting the suspension and putting it in before it gets cold is a good idea. I don't have an SC-10, but I did put a ProAction from an RX-1 in my Vmax-4. The RX-1 skid is narrower than the Vmax-4 tunnel, so I made spacer plates and bolted them to the inside of the tunnel to make up the difference. I measured the length of the RX-1 shaft and Vmax-4 shaft and split the difference to get the spacer thickness. It sounds like you're being told to make longer shafts so they will fit in the tunnel, then put what amounts to spacer rings on the shaft to keep the skid from sliding back and forth. The top shaft on the stock Vmax-4 suspension is just an idler, and doesn't carry any load. I'm not familiar with the SC-10, but if there is a shock attached to the top shaft then you will want to reinforce the tunnel anyway. There have been issues with the tunnel cracking due to the extra load in that area. If the shafts on the SC-10 are in good shape, you might be better off to make the spacers to reinforce the tunnel and take up the extra room. It's pretty slow around here this time of year, but there are some guys who have installed SC-10's in their sleds and I'm sure that when they read your post, they'll help you out.

Thanks Shark. I guess I can start taking measurements off the suspension as well as taking some measurements off a ski-doo like the one that the suspension came out of and see if and where I need to put some holes, spacers, reinforcements, etc. Micro
