I had an 87 Exciter that would do this on the stock clutch. The weights where so worn out that they had pockets in them and it would hang up on them about midway thru there travel. That and it was really dirty. Have you blown a belt lately? Might have a piece of belt in there. Its highly unlikely but possible.

Here are some pics showing the wieghts on 2 different Yammie clutches.

They are located behind the little rollers. There should be 3 "arms" that are what swing as the rpm's increase.
While you have a Comet clutch & it might look a bit different, they all use the same principles.
You could have either rollers or bushings that are worn out which will cause the clutch to stick & also shift improperly.

How many miles are on the clutch?

Odds are that the clutch needs a rebuild which is not hard to do & I am sure that there are tips at the HiPerformance site.

Check out this link for Comet parts etc.

You will need a clutch puller to remove it from your sled to work on it on a bench. You could work on it while on the sled, but that would be a serious pain in the a** !!:cussing:

Good luck.
