I'm afraid you could almost buy an Apex for what one like this would take - probably overkill on it but I'll just add it to the collection of stuff.
Yes, I (we) do my own painting and wrenching. This particular one the tunnel and clutch cover was professionally polished to a mirror finish. The paint is a special 3 phase application over the primer/sealer - metallic silver base with a translucent cobalt blue built up over that followed by a series of clears. In the sunlight it has a deep bluish-purple depth to it. We design the decals and have them cut - these are metallic silver.
Steel parts, such as the strut cans, steering gate, bumper, etc. are blasted to clean steel then powder coated and baked. All exhaust parts are also blasted then ceramic coated with titanium color and baked at 750. Engine components are blasted, treated, enamel coated and baked for days at lower temps. (One of my daughters does great detail lettering.)
I collaberated with Pat Hauck with the criteria as to how I wanted the engine set up. He reworked the pistons, jugs and heads and the gasketing to run mountain trails 5000'-8000'. We should be around 185+ hp with a fairly decent fuel range.
The RX-1 skid is new (take off) with oversized bottom wheels and the 4th rear wheel added. Handle bars raised 1". More stuff that I can't think of right now. We pretty much took it totally apart and went through it - which is kind of what we do with most of our projects.
I've been customizing vehicles for many, many years. The next sled project will probably be a mint SRX that I picked up but it will have to wait as there are a few vehicles ahead of it.
Thanks for the good words, guys. Just thought you fellows might like to see a different look to the VX800.
:sheep , Wow that really nice!!

where did you get your 1" riser from...? been looking for one for awhile now cause i think the bolt pattern is not the same as the other brands of yamaha models.

Imagination. As with a lot of "non profitable" models the aftermarket companys will not offer much.
Various ways to do this: (1) you can cut the steering shaft and weld an extension splice on - a few disadvantages to this but it would be solid. (2) cut from 3/4" thick aluminum - simply bore the handlebar hole first, split the hole, cut the desired size, drill the bolt holes. (3) a very easy way is to use an extra set of top clamps and reverse them onto the top of the steering shaft - I think you'll need 60mm long bolts for this.

I took a steering colum part from a SR-V. Just turned it around and bolted it on. home made 1 inch riser.:muahaha:
IŽll take pics of it when I go and get my sled to my place.

My handle bar riser, also made by using two holders, found from work..;) : *Edit:I'm getting old, I just realised I made 2 inch riser using the blocks instead of 1 inch...:D*

Yea, just take out the bottom piece for a 1". The handlebar cover still fit pretty well with 1" but looked like that was about the limit.
That 900 looks nasty fast just sitting there. Looks like some SRX decals to trick it out. Very nice.

The engine compartment detail on the 800 is extravegant.
If I had to guess, I would say the paint is PPG's radiance.
Must of been hang'in around with Pat when ya built the 900, looks like his motor components and a set of his howlers. I know from experience that there was a fair amount of thought and machining that went into the front TSS feet to allow you to use the drag ski's. They were not user friendly out of the box!!!! I remember seeing the 900 posted somewhere awhile back, had to admire the sled then. Both very nice looking sleds, it is quite apperant you have mega hours in the two.
NICE JOB

I can't take credit for the 900 dragster - don't know who's it is. Beautiful sled though.
I use PPG a lot but this one was a House of Kolors choice.

Thanks. I don't build 'em for the 100 point show stuff - that beast is meant to be a daily driver with a mission to piss off the younger generation and their F7s.

I do. I am not nearly done tuning yet. There is an update about my Viper in the sled mods in progress section.
