Hey guys, my nightmare is still not over with the ole lady sled project. anyway, I`ve noticed that the crank plugs are loose, i mean a couple are VERY loose, you can just barley push on them, and they will slide right out. another thing i`m wondering, is why there would be three missing ones. all total there are or would be 12 if three were`nt missing. there are two holes on each connecting rods wieghts, so each set of two wieghts, would have four. if this makes any sence at all. anyway, on the cylinder nearest the clutch, there are two empty holes, on iether side of that conecting rod. and on the center wieghts for the center connecting rod, there is one missing plug. So whats the deal here? and how about some bieng real loose? are these a common plug that i could buy somewhere and replace? sorry for the long post, but its kinda hard to describe the situation. LOL. thanks again.

al p I think you are looking at the crankshaft counter weight hole plugs. If I remember right the plugs are made of cork or some other lite material, I think they are used to take up crankcase volume. I could be wrong. I think it was an old tuner trick to install plugs in the crank holes, better performance. But i have been wrong before! Missing ones could of fell out and were spit out the exhaust pipe.

Thanks brad. after searching for last couple days, I just now tonight found a site where they were talking about using them plugs in vintage sleds for an old trick to get a little more crank case preasure. and like you said, it decreases crank case volume, and it suppose to help a tab with performance, but after searching big time for what thier made of, i have`nt found anything? i think I`m just going to try to find some cork the right size, and put them in there. as long as I can find the right OD, I can cut them to lengh to fit. funny enough, I`m thinking I may have to start drinking some cheap wine, so I can get some corks LOL. the holes are about .900, so thier just under an inch. I wish I could think up a way to measure the volume of each one, then i would be able to tell if thier were some left out to even them up? or if some are just plain missing? anyway, thanks again for the reply. Al P The cheap wine we drink comes in a box, maybe you could find some good whiskey wth a cork, you might need a case, that would be fun!
