Ok, I wanted some real world opinions on different styles of helmets. My 1st choice, and most expensive is a full face with elecrtic sheild...But by the time I sink $400+ into that setup, how does the open face (motocross style) work. I see people using them in powder, looks like they would be cold, on very cold days. I reall only have the funds to buy 2 (mine and the wife) So I have to make some good choices. I am so sick of fogging up:banghead: , not seeing anything. half the time I am riding with the face sheild open and freezing my contacts to the point the fall out. Can't ride if I can't see! let me know what you guys wear and how you like them, conditions you ride, trails, powder, ect. I am going to ride a little of every thing. thanks 3ft

the wife and i have zeus modulars with electric sheilds. we love them. i think they cost less than $200 with the sheild but i'm not positive.i wouldn't consider a motocross style, way to cold for me.

do the breath deflectors that come in some snowmobile helmets work very good, or not good at all? secondley, how tight or loose should a helmet fit to be the correct size? are they usually snug to the point where you could`nt wear anything like a stocking hat underneath? or should you be able to wear something on your head under your helmat? incase your wondering why I dont know these things, thats because i have always rode my motorcycle, and sleds, with a novalty cap. there a very small helmet and kinda look like a rabbi`s hat. but now that I`m not a spring chicken anymore :D, I`ve really been feeling the cold air on my face forhead ect. the badana`s and ski mask just aint cutting it anymore:D Thanks!

thanks racer7x. that was a very detailed report.
Have any of you guys tried a j-max? i think thats what its called. anyway, my local after market dealer is a having a huge sale on them friday. thier going to be marked down to $63 + tax only from 7am to 8am. after that. thier going back up to the usual sale price. they come with breath deflectors, and I think they look okay, but dont have any experiance with them or any other full face helmet. I really have`nt been planning on getting a nice helmet, but for that price, I`ll be able to afford it. so its about my only choice price why`s. but if its a total lemon, i would`nt want to get it anyway. so any experiance out there with this helmet? Thanks

HJC CL12 sIII and I like it alot. They are foriegn made but have Snell ratings and you can get parts and such anywhere. The off-brands are usually not snell rated and if you can get an electric shield, you won't find replacements in a year. I bought mine new with e shield for $175 (traded in the standard shield). You can find the HJCs all over Ebay. You want a very snug fit. When you have it on you need to be able to shake your head like "no" and it should not move around...Blue

I have the bombardier modular helmet and I love it, it has never fogged, it has a built in sun shield too, so there is no need to bring along sunglasses anymore, you just flip down the sun shield!! That feature gets overlooked alot because of the breath deflector, but all around I love this helmet, there's no need for an electric sheild because it just won't fog up no matter how cold it is outside. You can find good deals on them online, I bought mine 2-3 years ago for $250 new.
