Can some of you guys that are running EGTs tell me the distance from the piston to the probe. I have heard several different opions about where to mount the probe. Everything from 2" to 9". Please give me some opinions and where you found the info. thanks, Don

You could spend a lifetime trying to find the absolute sweet spot in the pipe for an EGT probe. This is no fixed science. The EGT temps should be used for no more than a benchmark in exhaust temps simply because of the infinate variables. We have found that six inches from the piston works good in a max4 unlike its little twin sister that likes 9 inches. Is there a better spot??? Probably. Make sure you read your plugs against the temps on the guage to develop a reliable correspondence between the two. Hope this helps ya

Thanks for the input Skinner, I have always read the plugs and thennnnnn.... looked at the EGT temp. Once I was sure that I was running as lean as I considered safe I then made a note of the EGT temp and used those number as a limit. The EGT numbers may or may not be exactly in the sweet spot but I could rest assured that I'm running safe since I know the plugs looked good at that given temp. I like to jet when the outside temperature is in the single digits since it seldom gets below 0 here in Ohio. Don
