looking good AL P.....is it hard to seperate the head gasket? and what do you use to reinstall? permitex copper seal???
thanks . its pretty easy to separate the gaskets, just use a drill, and drill out the rivets, theres one on each end of the gaskets, and make sure you blow off any metal shavings off the gasket from drilling the rivet. before you put the gasket on, just spray it on both sides with some copper spray HI-temp gasket adhesive. its held up very well for me. i got the idea from others here on the site, that have also done it, and not heard of any problems.

How much compresion did you gain AL ??

Hey AL great pics:party:
It's about time I have been waiting to see a whole bunch of your sled. Can't wait to see a photo of you blasting down the road by your neighbors house. :)
Thanks racer7x.
SRV540, the stock two layer gasket is about .016, so when you use just one layer, its equall to shaving .008 off your heads. so you would gain aprox. 8lbs compression. not bad for just removing a couple rivets. if you measure one layer of the head gasket, it will measure .010, but when thier tightened down, they flaten out to .008. this same plan would also work on the 93, 94 750`s. 92`s came stock with a three layer gasket, so you would probley just want to go with a stock 93 or 94 two layer gasket on it to achieve the same result. Lookin really good AL,P!

Woops, i just realized I forgot a "0" in the .008in, i had it at .08, which be just a little too much.:D

So how much hp is gained by doing this. I put 800 pipes and Boysen reeds and rejetted to gain about 10 hp bringing my 92 750 to about 145 hp. Also how reliable will it be?
Thanks Ike.

I really dont know about the HP gain with the raised compression, but I believe it to be very reliable. like i say, I got the idea from other members here awhile ago, and they`ve been running thiers with just one layer for quite a long time from what I understand. IMO i think going with less layers of a head gasket, would lesson the chances of blowing a head gasket, then with two or more layers. with one layer you only have two surfaces to seal. where as with the stock two layer, you have three surfaces to seal. now on the 92`s with stock gaskets, you would have four surfaces to seal. But, i dont think with a 92, you would want to go with just one layer, but the stock 93,94 two layer gaskets would still give you about 8lbs more compression. AL

Is each layer identical? If I purchased one gasket, could split it and use it on each two bank side?
Has anyone had sucess re-using head gaskets?
Thanks,
Dan
yes, each gasket is identical. i only used one of the set of two that came in my gasket kit for my motor. you could just go to the dealer, and get "one" gasket, and be all set. But, you have a 92 right? if so, you should probley go with the two layer 93,94 gasket. unless its okay to take off .016 from your heads so to speak? i dont know how much that would effect the squish? or of you would still be safe for regular gas?
Now when it comes to re using head gaskets. they say thats the one gasket that should never be re used under ay circumstances, However, although I have never re used a head gasket on a snowmobile, I have re used one on my harley. I was planing on a road trip with some friends (only about 200 miles, round trip) and a couple days before the run, I developed a valve leak problem, so i had to take the heads off to lap out the valve, and could`nt get any gaskets because my motor is a S&S stroker, so most shops around here dont even stock gaskets for it, anyway, I ended up breaking out the copper spray, and put it back together, and made the run with no preblems. so I left it like that for the rest of this year. so needless to say, I`m sold on the copper spray. The perticular brand i have is "versa chem" dont know if it makes a differance, but figured I would mention it.

Al,
That motor looks AWESOME, along with the sled. The picture of the motor makes me wish, I would of done mine instead of someone else, that way I could of cleaned mine up.
