Hey 8BU, just curious what are you planning to gain from the Crazy Mountain Extreme setup as compared to our traditional chaincases? I see a few issues with the CMX setup that I thought I'd share.

1.) CMX never offered their chaincase setup for the Vmax-4 chassis, could you fabricate something to work, possibly.

2.) CMX has limited gear options with their beltdrive setup, the bottom gear is quite simular to a snout pulley off a 6/8-71 blower setup, believe me they are pricey to replace to play with gear combos.

3.) Think about rotating mass of those giant belt driven pulleys as compared to the weight of a stock cast or steel gear. I went out to the garage and thru one of my 8-71 blower snout gears (aluminum) on the scale which is simular to the picture. Weight came in at 5.75 pounds and a stock 35 tooth bottom gear weighed in at 2.0 pounds, thats like throwing 21 additional pounds of ass weight on the seat as compared to stock.

I know I've thought about going to this setup before but after weighing the options and price tag plus availability I just can't see coughing up around $2000 for this setup. Maybe the biggest gain would be the end of breaking chains, but for $2000 a guy can afford to break lots of chains.

Quadzillaracer thanks for your input. Well I was mainly looking at another possible way to cut some weight off the sled and lessen rotating weight. The only price i was concerned about was the belt and bearings. I was planning on doing some goverment projects at work to make the rest of the parts. I have looked at primary belt drives for HD's but was told the belts wouldn't handle 150 horse. My plans are to keep motor stock and exhaust stock with the possibility of a Bender cans for weight once again. So pretty much anything I can machine or fabracate myself with out costing alot of money. This is all for play and not for competition. Thanks for your thoughts.

That would be fun to fabricate something like that just to have one that's unique, but probably not very practical.

Justin - Let me know when you figure out how to mount one of your 8-71 blowers on the Vmax-4 engine and I'll buy one. Not really into turbochargers, although my Duramax has one and turbo whine is kinda cool, but you'll never top the whine of a blower.

Not really related, but Trek just came out with the first belt driven bicycle. They said that one of the biggest problems was finding a belt that wouldn't stretch, but someone came up with a carbon fiber composite that solved it. The bike retails for over $900, and like Justin says, you can buy a lot of chains for that price. Besides, how many chains have you ever broken on a bicycle?

HaHaHa....that blower setup would probley add about 100 pounds to your sled, ya I too love the whine of the blower gears, I have a Chevrolet V8 small block 434 ci engine in my 4x4 show truck plus w/ Pete Jackson gear drive. I love that sound w/ the 2, can hear it coming from a mile away.

Working on one now i have all the shafts bearings and pulleys also brake and rotor for driveshaft. Not that hard to doo. Shafts are not that expensive. New gates belts are very strong.
