Well, I'm finally taking my Turbo Vmax-4 to Dynotechresearch.com to dial this sled in on early am September 18th in Batavia, NY. Guys been telling me for years that I need to go there and tune.

I hope to break the official current h.p. record if all goes well (537.xxx) h.p. held by Mr. Glenn Hall and right behind him OSP. I've been busy in the garage fabricating and modifying (again). The sled is now running 10 more pounds of boost than when I set the 162.406 mph record in 1000'.

Glenn Hall will be there too to lend his hand in dialing in the sled, should be a fun day if I don't come home with a sled in a basket!

Go check out the schedule "blog" at www.dynotechresearch.com (http://www.dynotechresearch.com) for more info.

Justin we made our first trip down there early last winter. We have already made our second trip down.. (6.5 hrs of travel one way and worth every minute) There is so much to be gained from the info available at Jim's shop.. Good luck with your goal for the record!!! Say hi to Jim for us from up here in Northern Ont...

I'm not going to put on a show, maybe the camera will be on but I don't know. I just want to dial this sled in and make the most of its potiential for 2010. If the sled breaks the official record then its just another bonus for these old dinosaurs. But I'll be keeping all my major "secrets" and info in the bag, LOL!

Ya, Tony he seemed pretty excited about this dyno session and thought it would be a great day of fun. Glenn Hall of D&D Racing is coming out for the session too. I've been busy working and modifying this sled all summer, still little more to finish but no problem. New progressive electronic boost controller, new head modifications, ect. Now running 10 more pounds of boost then when I ran 162.406 mph in 1000'. We'll see how it all plays out, should get some great tuning info. Current Dynotech Horsepower record is held by Glenn Hall @ 537.xxx h.p. followed by OSP with 537.xxx also.

Thanks Josh, its been along road to get where the sled is at today as I've said many times before.

Well, for those of you that may be interested and for those of you that have asked for some years now thru emails, PM's, and calls. I'm finally considering offering my custom Vmax-4 Turbo Kits to you as "Quadzilla Customs". These kits will be limited production; Stage 1 will be fully adjustable from 200-350 H.P. (this kit will be fully trailable pending on boost level), Stage 2 will be adjustable from around 300-400 H.P. (speed run/drag setup only!) Stage 3 will be 500 H.P., this will require our special modified Vmax-4 engines, currently I'm working on the Stage 4 setup that could produce a legit 550+ h.p. (watch for DynoTech in September). All Stage 1 and 2 kits will require various engine mods.

We are also receiving request for turn key sleds. Anybody that has seen my Turbo Vmax-4 knows that its all about "Show and Go", quality is as important as go in my kits, that is why we are building limited production. I now have 7-years involved proving what will work and what won't work in turbo applications on the Vmax-4, unfortunatelly the original First Choice Turbo Kits were a disgrace to these sleds and poorly designed. We can also design and build Vmax 600 turbo kits as well that will bump your little 600 twin to over 220 h.p. For all other models feel free to inquire.

So if you have interest in taking your Max to the next level feel free to inquire by PM or email, I will offer complete installation and dyno tuning at no charge to all remaining 2009 buyers of my kits including p/u and delivery in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. All kits will be built on a per order basis.

Thanks

We are ready to go! Heading out to Dynotech tonight for our Friday morning dyno session. We are hooking it up to the dyno at 8:00 am. Its been a busy summer working on new improvements for a faster 2010. The extra horsepower/boost should place us in the lower 170's in 1000' Cameras should be on!

Jabber800

Any goals in mind for your session??? If your looking for 170's in 1000ft runs, What do you think you will run in 2000 if you make the trip up here for a NBSSR run this season.. Good luck Friday..

quadzillaracer
09-16-2009, 05:40 PM
Well I'm looking for anything over 537 horsepower, LOL! Actually my target is between 550-600 h.p. The ultimate goal is to be the first single engine snowmobile to break "600" h.p. we'll see though, lot can happen. We will start as usual with low boost and build from that point.

I've done quite a few calculations lately as to weight, aceleration, horsepower. We should be able to achieve around 185 mph in 2000'.

Stay tuned!

Looking forward to seeing your sled run in person.. We generally have very good ice conditions, shaved track helps also!! If your in the mid 500 hp range I don't think high 180's or ever a 190 would be out of the question.. Good luck on Friday.. Wish I could be watching but I have work commitments..

We had a real long dyno session yesterday-15 hours, LOL! But we did make 507.9 h.p. and about 10 pulls around 500 h.p. We tried many different turbo configurations, however, we were about 5-7 pounds under our boost level goal, due to a boost leak that we found just before our last run. We fixed the leak and sled began to pull boost goal, but on that pull we broke a reed pedal and it was getting late, so we called it a day. With that we officially join only 3 other people to become one of the Dynotech Research "500 h.p. Club". I feel great to know that once I fix the leak permanently that I will be able to turn boost up and hit my goal, it was a great day! My wife did see 513 h.p. on the screen but it didn't pickup!

CONGRATS! You are in tough company!!!
I watched whenever I had a moment, but never got to see a pull. I did get to see when you bent the needle. What exactly happened there? Are you going to be able to fix the reeds failing?
Are you going to go back? I was wishing I was there. It looked like a lot of hard work, but fun.

Thank you guys!

Kahunas, we got the reed issue figured out now, just sucked on the dyno swapping out broke petals, ate up lots of time. I'm currently having reeds built out of stainless steel spring steel slightly thinner than our stock reed fiber material, this will prevent the issue and are very simular to old stock Phazer 485cc "metal" reeds. Also reconfiguring my spring setup on Y-pipes to prevent the "wastegate" issue on pipes.

Dynotech Jim called me back on the way home and was frustrated about the issue and thought this package has 550 h.p. + in it, so I was invited back again. With that we made the appointment and will be back at Dynotech on Friday, November 27th, 2009. This sled will be ready to push 600 h.p.

We have jigs all configured and built to start producing limited quantities of these turbo kits in various stages, including complete motor packages. We have kits that are starting to be spoken for but will work with all inquires.

We had a great time in NY. Jim did a great 2 page tech story on www.dynotechresearch.com (http://www.dynotechresearch.com) check it out! Also forgot to mention that this sled made 313 ft. lbs. of torque as well!

What ever caused the needle to bend? Was it from the reed problem? Did you straighten it, or did Jim have one?

Hey Kahunas, sorry I never replied to your post. The cause of the bent needle was from an entire reed pedal breaking off and hitting the tip of the needle then wedging in the carburetor throat instead of blowing out thru the exhaust port. Jim did have a spare which helped out.

I'm happy to report that I've worked hard the last 1-1/2 months to develope a new steel reed to take the abuse of our 2-stroke turbo engines. I worked with different types of material (steels) to develope a very strong pedal that will up hold to the abuse of extreme boost pressures. My turbo sled is ready to go back to Dynotech Research on November 27th. I took the time to teardown engine (AGAIN) and re-ring motor and inspect internal components, all looks great still and the Y-pipe causing the wastegate effect has been cured as well. Bottomend pilots were fattened up for jetting to eliminate lean pops too. At this point all should go great unless something catastrophic happens internally to the engine as I fully intend to push engine to 40 psi of boost as my modified internals seem very happy at 30 pounds. Only about 3-weeks 'til we hit the dyno once more. I orginally calculated my horsepower to be around 504 h.p. @ 30 psi of boost before my visit to Dynotech and it actually dynoed @ 508 h.p. so at this time my calculations are showing around 605 h.p. @ 40 psi of boost...can't wait!

Getting everything loaded up today in the trailer and heading to Dynotech Research on Wednesday afternoon with the family. The Turbo sled is already to go and make some "huge" horsepower!

I have the issues that haunted us on our last visit taken care of. Pilot jets are now fattened up to rid of the initial lean pops, Y-pipes have extra high tension springs (12 per pipe) to prevent wastegate effect, and my new designed "steel based material" reeds seem to work excellent (I put alot of R&D on these).

If your a subscriber to Dynotech Research then you can watch the Horsepower Cam and Dyno Room Cam all day on Friday, Jim has the sound and cams ready. If your not a member you can join for I believe $25 per year @ www.dynotechresearch.com (http://www.dynotechresearch.com)

I'll try to report back with results on Saturday if I can get a computer at the motel.

Hopefully, we can do all fellow Vmax-4 owners proud!

Glad to announce that Justin has broken the HP record @ Dynotech today, putting out 558.9 HP with the old Dinosaur which is an amazing accomplishment and even better yet, without any failures and probably more power yet to be unleashed. 600 HP may still be in sight with a little more boost !!! Good Job Justin !!!! Curt

Watched a few pulls.. Very solid repeatable runs.. Should be able to dial that thing in quite easy on the ice.. Now you have the HP record!! Time to get up here like Valin said and grab the top speed record.. Hope to see you here this winter..

Great work
