Your sled has the best skid Yamaha ever offered for the Vmax-4.
Are you going drag racing?

Can you expand on this? Is the 97 skid different than prior year skids? I was thinking of putting an 01 Pro Action under my V 4, would the 97 skid be a better choice?
skids are differant in 97 compared to any other year vmax4. I think it was/is a pro action skid?.

As has been stated already, you have the ProAction Plus suspension which is a long-travel (11.5") suspension. I doubt you would gain enough of an increase in comfort or travel to make it worth the trouble of swapping it out.

Are you sure it's a 1997? If it is, it should have 11" of rear travel and unless you upgrade to an M-10, pro-active or newer Mono skid you have the best suspension Yamaha has offered for that era.
