View Full Version : vmax-4 800 stock needle clip position?
Can anyone tell me what the stock needle clip position is for a 95/96 vmax-4 800?
Its been so long, I can`t remember? Should`nt the E clips be in the second from top slot?
Seams like thats right?
Thanks..

I couldn't find it in the service manual either, at least not for the 800's. Information and diagrams for the 750's is in there.

800,s WERE# 3 POSITION. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Cool...yammiegod to the rescue!!
thanks for posting yammiegod..
now I gotta figure out if I want to take the rest of these carbs apart on the 96, and change the clip position or not? LOL
Was really hoping the second from top slot was stock...
but it appears the previous owner, changed the settings (E clips are in the second from top slot)..humm...what to do...
I know this change would be leaning out the mids but...I`m not to sure I like that..LOL
thanks again for the replies everyone..

LEAVE IT. I DID THAT TO MY 96 WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT. VERY SNAPPY THROTTLE RESPONSE. HEY BY THE WAY, MY STOCK VMAX 800 CLUTCH SET-UP WILL FLY IN A 96. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Sweet...sounds like this guy did do some tuneing on er...
He said he spent quite a bit of time dialing it in..(which was fairly evident, going by the pile of EV plugs in the bucket of extra parts he must have used for plug reads, the hand full of jets, including alternate pilot jets, differant reads (not sure what, i just know he had the stock reads in a little case he threw in wth the extra parts), and the list goes on...
Now let me ask this yammiegod..
He said it has the stock weights, (Can`t remember if I ask about the rivets?), but anyway, he put an ALL white spring in it..literally, the whole actuall spring is white? not sure what the heck that is?
but..I did run across a guy recently, that was selling some sled parts, that happen to have a hauck blue spring, so i got it, and was thinking of going with it. so it would be the stock clutch, including weights, and rivets?, a hauck blue spring (5 coils)...
stock secondary spring as far as i know? (what was your recomended twist again? 6/70degree? EDIT: just looked it up, and see it`s 1-6/70 degree, which is what I`m running on my 95...and works damn good i may add...thanks yammiegod)...
I`m hoping to set it up for casual trail riding, with a little kick..LOL
so do you think the e clips in the second from top slot would be okay for steady trail riding, in the mid range posibley?
Its kinda a catch 22 deal..on one hand, I know he`s spent ALOT of time dialing it in, so why change it..
but on the other hand..I don`t know how radical he has it setup for? as far as I know, he was into drag racing for fun or whatever..which is cool...but I`m wanting to set it up for trail riding...
that being said...its kinda hard for me to change anything, as I`m curious as hell, what it`ll do with the current settings..lol
(jetted down, all white spring?, needle clips changed to second slot, who knows what else)..But needless to say, if I left everything alone, I`d have to run something better then pump gas in it, judging by the much smaller mains..(135`s right now..it has PSI pipes, no internal stingers)...
thanks for any and all thoughts!!

Al,
I'd leave it as is and just clean it up... If the guy had it tweaked in good, you might be messing things up changing stuff. Just keep an eye on the plugs and make changes if needed.
Don't worry if her sled is faster than yours, your woman will stop and wait for you to catch up every now and then! LOL!

Well, I left most of it how it was for now..But I did bump up the mains slightly..I would have to been insane not to..LOL..
but I did leave the clips in the second slot from top..washer under the E clips...
It`s still going to be pretty dang lean on the mains for pump gas..but..I can`t see the ole lady doing any lengh of WOT runs anyway..lol..so it should be okay...but of course, I`ll be checking the plugs constantly for a while anyway..especially when it starts getting really cold..
the only other thing I changed slightly was the idle/pilot screws..he had them close to 2 1/2 turns out..I set them at 2 turns out even..
And hey..I`m not too sure the ole lady would wait for me...if memory serves, she was a good block down the road, when i went over my hood, taking out my windshield..she did`nt know anything even happen, until she noticed I was half hunched over my bars trying to hold what was left of my windshield in place as I pulled up next to her..lol
