I thought I'd share my latest project with you guys. Started it a week or so ago. With parts availablity getting tougher for the Vmax-4 motors I decided it was time for something a little newer, RX-1 motor. The plan this year is to hit it with a pretty big shot of nitrous and then next year I will build a turbo setup for it.
The frame has been chopped, need to finish boxing it in still. Had to chop up, lengthen, and narrow the steering stem, then bend up a custom tie rod to clear the motor. The motor mounts are finished, the rears are simple aluminum angles and the fronts are made of 3/4" chromoly tubing. The CDI, volt. reg, and oil tank are mounted. We relocated the radiator and just need to finish the plumbing. The exhaust is only partial but I have a plan for it. Hoping to be able to fire it up within the next three weeks.
What do you think?

I have thought that would b a cool project. A good combination of old and new.
THUMBS UP!!!

Wow, that's a pretty radical project! :4fzfk2::4fzfk2::4fzfk2: I really like the paint color. With an RX-1 motor you won't be limited to a turbo setup. There's also a supercharger setup that would give you instant throttle response.
Thanks for the pictures! :worthless

That is very cool, one of the coolest things I have seen actually. I hope you are going to upgrade the braking system.. Great job!

Built an exhaust, tunneled the seat and got a clutch cover done up for it today.

That's really cool. I need to build an exhaust like that for my PSI's so I can pass the Michigan noise law!:cussing::cussing::cussing:

Coming along nicely. I got the frame all boxed back in, the motor is finish mounted and aligned. Fuel and oil systems are completely done. Battery is mounted. I need to pick up one elbow and the coolant will be done. Wiring is about 90% complete, just gotta make a couple battery cables and wire the temp sensor. Waiting on a couple exhaust gaskets and should be able to fire it up within the next few days, possibly some test passes next weekend.

WAAAAY COOL!!!! Are you going to make it easy to change the oil?
Master of Faster

Yeah, the oil tank drain is real easy to get at already. I'll just pop a small hold in the belly pan to get the crankcase drain. Oil filter is cake compared to an RX-1. Overall this thing will be 1000 times easier to work on than it was in an RX chassis.

Got a couple runs in this weekend with it. Have some little bugs to work out but nothing major. Just running on the motor for now but I was pretty pleased with it for a first time out, lots and lots of room for improvement.

Got two solid weekends of testing with it and had it running better than I expected it would on a worn out old motor. The chassis worked absolutely awesome. I couldn't help but wonder what it would run like with a turbo on it, so I guess I'll find out this weekend. Simons CPR front mount

Better pictures of the finished turbo setup. Testing tommorrow. This sled is deffinitely lighter than a full weight RX-1, that's apples to oranges though. Hard to say for sure, but it would take a considerable amount of work to get an RX-1 down to this weight I think. It isn't as heavy as it looks, two guys can pick the whole thing up relatively easily.

Looks great. Let us know how the testing goes. Are you testing aginast a RADAR gun, or timers?

Here's a quick video of the sled running at 10psi of boost. You can hear it grabbin the rev limiter early but I didn't do a whole lot of tuning since I knew I wasn't at the boost level I am gonna run at. Couldn't get the fuel pump the make the pressure I needed to turn the boost up.

Made some changes in the skid and got the front end staying down "better". May still need to roll the case back for some extra length. Here's a quick vid of me running a real strong viper and an 1108 cat, the cat wheelies out in this one. I ran him again later and squeezed him out by maybe a length. I've got it pulling down track real strong now but I need to get an MSD on it and start working the 60 ft.

What all is done with the T-Cat? Your sled looks as if it really launching hard. LOOKS GREAT!!!!!!
Master of Faster

The T-cat is well worked over. Fully lightened, wahl skid, OSP front end, micro clutch. Don't know who built the motor in it. Ran my sled through some timers today, it went a 5.50 on a so-so run with 10lbs of boost. With some more clutch work, a couple more pounds of boost and a better launch, there are easily a few more tenths in it. I'm pretty pleased so far.
