Hello guys and girls.
Ooooooohh, it seems weird saying girls, it's been so long since there have been any here.
Every year for the past several years, one of the moderators have started a post trying to raise a little money to help Eric out with the cost of the site. I guess it's my turn in the barrel this year. As you all can see, he has brought this site back from many crashes and data loss to a newer, more stable version of the software. I'm trying to say that delicately because I am in no way bashing racer7x. I loved him and all that he did to get this site started in the first place, and I miss his input. I hope he comes back someday. CaptJager took over in the middle of major problems and has rebuilt the site. This doesn't come free. Check the vBulletin site and you'll find that the software alone was over $400, and he has spent well over 800 hours of his own personal time to rebuild the site to where it is today. He doesn't do this for the money, there isn't any. He does it because he's passionate about the site, the sled, and the people here.
At one time we discussed having a membership fee to join. We decided, as a whole, not to do that because it would leave some people out, and we don't ever want to do that (except those damn spammers). The whole purpose of this site is to help others and share information. We decided to make the donations on a voluntary basis. It doesn't matter how much you can afford to give, especially in this economy, but a few dollars here and there will add up to help Eric with the costs of the software and host. Those of you who have been here awhile know that we used to have a whole line of sponsors advertising on the site. They have all bailed out due to the site problems, except for Skinner and Quadzillaracer. Just another example of good people sticking with good people. Thanks Dave and Justin! Capt'n is trying to line up new sponsors, but they want a clean, stable site before they will commit. That's what the new software will provide. We will have regular backups every week, so the most information we will lose will only be a week's worth, not 6 months or a year as in the past.
We have a lot of new members here this season, and that's great! Some are brand new to the Vmax-4 and are looking for information. Just imagine trying to find that information if it wasn't for a site like this. You can all benefit from years of experience from us "old guys" (you know who you are, c'mon admit it). Some of the questions have been asked over and over. We don't care, we'll answer them again. Eric has dug way back in the archives and has made old posts available so that we can just do a search and post links to old topics that will help the newer members. That's a lot of work, also.
Sorry to have to ramble on like a PBS station begging for money. :4fzfno::4fzfno::4fzfno: Donate a little if you can. If you can't, you're still welcome here. You can click on the "Donate" tab at the top of the page to use PayPal, or you can contact CaptJager for information on other ways to donate.
Thank you,
Shark
