I am thinking about changing the suspension on my sled and I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on what to do for aftermarket suspension for a 93 vmax-4?

aftermarket can get quite pricey, if that is not an issue then try a.d boivin or team fast's m-10. If money is an issue then an rx-1 suspension is nice, any newer yamaha pro-action is pretty nice. Just about anything will fit, maybe not plug and play but there are some suspension swap techs on the site that will help alot.

Fox use to offer replacement shocks as well as Ohlins and Yamaha (GYT)

I still have the template I made to put a 2001 SRX suspension on my 92. I took the suspension out of the '97 I bought new and located off the holes that are there. It's kind of a long story... The '97 tunnel has both sets of suspension holes in the tunnel, but it only uses the Pro Action holes.
Well anyway, I pulled location off of the rear reflector hole and the forward suspension hole of the "96 hole that wasn't used on the '97. You need the exact size drill bits, to hold location and an automatic punch. Start with little dots, and drill small. Then you'll have it. You will have to remove the support hardware pieces for the front and middle bolt locations and transfer the new locations. What's nice about the Yammie Pro Action, all the tunnel support stuff that is already there can stay in place. And does not get in the way of any new prototypin' !!!
You will have to fabricate the rear suspension brackets, what is important is the location on the tunnel that you will have exact.
I can copy. Both sides of the template does each side of the tunnel.
And it will be exact.
I can dig up some quality photos of the fabrication. Scan them to this laptop, and show clear images of just how easy it was.

They have been discontinued, just post a WTB ad and keep an eye on Ebay.
As for your second question I would say no but I could be wrong...
