I found a very affordable set of cylinders and heads, from an 800 Vmax4, I plan on putting these on my 750, my question is, is there anything else I need to change, beside the pistons. And will I really feel the power difference? And are the reeds the same in the 2?
Humm,,,,,,is this really you? not trying to sound like an azz, and not that it matters, but is this vmax 4, seans or yours? Dont get me wrong, but if its his sled or atleast intended to be for him to ride, does he really need any more power than a stock 750? not that it would be all that differant, but it just seams like alot to go through for what little gain, I`m geussing its going to give ya? besides, were`nt the stock cylinders ported, and stock heads cut already for added performance?

i dont think your gonna get the gains you are looking for with that up grade so you can just sell me them jugs and be done with it (lol)
I believe that the piston pins are larger on the 800's so you will have to use 750 pins and buttons from Hauck.

What kind of money for the Parts from Hucks?

DUDE, THERE WERE ALOT MORE DEFFERENCES BETWEEN THE 800 AND 750 THAN JUST HEADS AND CYLINDERS. 3:16 (tony)

Ok Now that my wife bought me 800 cylinders and heads for Christmas, what do I need to complete the swap.
This is the problem. Last spring I bought a 94 t-cat 900 with a bad engine for a great price with the intention of selling it and my vmax to pay for a rx1.
Now that I put big $$$$$$ in the cat for its 0 mile engine I took it for a ride only to find it would eat my vmax. So the plan is to find a way to help old MAX get more power. I’m competing against myself so that when I sell the Cat I wont be going slower. And I love my VMAX

IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOUR DOING, HEADS AND CYLINERS STILL ARN,T GONNA GET YA AROUND THAT CAT. EVER HEAR OF SET-UP LIKE CLUTCHING, GEARING, TRACITION, etc!! 3:16 (tony)

Hate to tell you but the 800's in a short race arent any quicker than the 750's. Leave it as a 750 and put the 800 y pipe on it and it will now be the same as an 800 everywhere. Getting a y pipe is cheaper than getting the rod inserts from Hauck!

I do know what im doing!and that is one of the probs. Every thing that i have done to my VMAX I have done to the T-CAT This is my first cat project (Im a yamaha person) Are you saying that the cat is just faster than the VMAX? Last year i raced a lot of cats and never lost, But i never raced a T-CAT.
Should i sell the 800 stuff? Whats it worth?

Out of the box the tcat is faster and its 163hp. The 93-94 750v4 is about 140hp. The 800v4 is about 150hp. You wont have enough to beat the tcat.
Now bolt a set of aftermarket quads on the 750 and you will wind up in the 160 hp mark(and that is with any aftermarket quads). Quad pipes, clutching, and traction is the easyest way to get around a tcat in my opinion.

HUGH IS RIGHT!! 94MAXX GRASS RACED HIS 94 750 WITH JUST MY 96 EXHAUST ON IT, AND THE RIGHT CLUTCH SET-UP, SLED FLEW!! HERE IS WHAT TO DO, SELL ME THAT 800 STUFF, THAN GO OUT AND BUY QUAD PIPES FOR YOUR 750. YOU THAN WILL BE VERY CLOSE IN HORSEPOWER, DO THE BASIS SET-UP STUFF AND BEAT THAT CAT. EVERYBODY WILL THAN BE HAPPY!! 3:16 (tony)

I'll swap ya for a set of 750 Bender quads

Let me think about it. I may have found a good 800 lower end cheep.
I Will know tonight.
If i do the swap i will have a nice set of 750 cylinders that have been shaved and ported for sale if anyone needs them

I shold also let you know the cat has pipes and v force reeds?
Skinner
12-06-2005, 12:16 PM
Thats a pretty big part of the equation, 900cc, piped with reeds against a stock 750 Max. Don't sound like a fair game. Apples and Oranges???? Not only does the cat have the displacment, but modified as well. Do the same mods to the max-4 and COOK the cat:bottom:
I dont know if its been mentioned yet or not, but would`nt you want to get the crank welded if you were going to be using an 800 top end?
iflysmalljets
12-06-2005, 08:11 PM
At this point, I either going to sell, the parts, or find an 800 lower end.
Whats a realistic horsepower increse, with quad pipes..

does the vmax have stock clutching? if so, I would imagine that would certainly make a differance. from what I`ve read anyway. secondly adding that suspension probley did`nt help your chances of winning the race. I`m not sure i understand the thinking? if your trying to do a bunch of work to beat this cat. why would you put a suspension on the vmax that is known to slow it down on top end? why not keep a stock low suspension, clutch it, get pipes, ect.?

650+ miles on that sled, and his back still hurts... LOL!
How Wimpy! LOL. I`ve rode hundreds of miles on my vintage sleds with almost no travel at all, and have`nt had any back problems. now although i do admit that the newer long travel suspensions would be a much softer ride, my stock vmax suspension rides like a cadilac compared to the old vintage sleds I`ve been riding for last so many years. I`ve never been sore at all after riding. I must be a little tougher.

I got the stock suspension in my 93. No back problems eighter. I like it alot don't even mind it when the trails are not groomed. I just don't pin it through the bumps I take it easy. But when I hit a field or lake I WOT it and she rocks!!!!

I guess some of us ride like girls, some of us ride like men... LOL! Or mabye I'm just geting old
so if i dont ride my vmax 4 like its a snow cross machine, then i ride like a girl?
first off, you post a thread about how your not happy with the performance of your 750 vmax 4, and you want to mod it some more. then you post in the same thread about how fast your arctic cat is, and how the vmax 4 was`nt even close. then just to add a little, you decide its a good idea to show us a picture of a parcial motor, and tell us thats the motor you need to beat. what are we suppose to figure out about beating that motor by looking at a picture? I mean, really what was the point of that? I cant figure it out? why dont you just sell the vmax to someone who will apreciate it more than you do? Sorry, maybe I`m am out of line, and perhaps should`nt have made the "wimpy" comment, but first we had to hear from your son about how much faster daddy`s arctic cat was than the vmax 4, then we had to hear it from you, then your son has to tell us how awfull the stock vmax 4 suspension must be, because his dads back STILL hurts, and the list goes on. I think you should buy another arctic cat that is identical to the one you have, and then compete with yourself, by trying to get each one of them to be faster than the other. Hows that sound for a plan?

We're just saying, we don't buzz down the trails, we go down them, in the worst places, and don't ride like we have touring sleds...
We are trying to make the Vmax4 faster than the T-cat...

WOW aren’t you grumpy . How do you get im not happy with the performance of my VMAX. The only performance comment that I made was, it has never been beaten. I need to respond to (Sell it to someone that will appreciate it) When I found my VMAX it was left for dead ! The engine had a bent Rod and was missing lots of parts it had been outside rotting for years! Me and my 12 year old son (who you are insulting for telling the truth) Helped me every day re-building this Sled. The modifications that we have made have only made it better and the T-Cat was only bought to get another Yamaha! I was only kidding about riding like a Girl. As I thought you were about you calling me wimpy. As for my Back. The trails in this part of Maine are not flat. We have a lot of rough trails making the suspension necessary . I do fly high performance Jets and things like a bad back would cost me big $$$$$$$$.
In short I love my VMAX and the intension of this thread was to get advice on more improvements.

Guys, I don't think there was any intention of starting a war here, just trying to get the best out of your sleds. Todd, I think its great that you spend the time with your twelve year old son working on these projects, that is how the kids learn. They need to spend time in the garage with dad, regardles of dads knowledge. ( sometimes you need to spend quality time tann'in their butts ) The quality time with these kids pave the road for their future. Absentee parenthood is like piping and exciter, sooner or later it will blow up. Good job on keep'in the max out of the coffin, I hope ya get it set up to cook the cat
Best regards

Thanks.
I would like to add. that with out this website i could not have rebuilt my sled. Not just advice, but a lot of the parts came from fellow members.

I geuss this is where my confusion began. thought you were going to sell them both?

I thought you said the cat ate the vmax?, and now you are looking for ways to mod it up some more, so it wont be going slower than the cat? that does`nt sound like someone who is happy with it?.

And how do you figure I`m insulting your son? I was making a point about how perhaps its not the best idea to brag up a cat on a regular basis on a yamaha site. actually i think your son is probley one of the smartest kids around, but he does get a little agravating. Would i go to a polaris site, and tell them about how my vmax 4 kills my polaris, and then show a picture of my vmax 4 engine?
No i would`nt. not in this content anyway.

If they make a new VMAX4 I will get one. I dident know that because I fly jets i should have a different sled.
