I am just wondering who else is running bender quads on v4 here, I am just looking for jetting specs from other users. I know Bender calles for 145's for sea level to 2000 feet, I just picked up some 145's and 147.5's to try out on my 800 wich has 157.5's right now and that way to rich, the preveous owner had these installed for what reason I do not know, but I figure I will start with the 147's first and tune from there, just wanting some input....thanks in advance

Yes, run in Vermont and Maine.. As mentioned, sled was set up when I bought it.. Never had any burn down issues, except for when crank twisted..

I am running bender quads too but I bought the sled set up with the quads, clutching and jetting. I actually don't know what jet's are in it, what clutch springs are in it, or what helix it has and I don't really know how to tell other than by the spec sheet that came from bender with the quads. I'm not really sure if the previous owner followed the spec sheet or not. How can I tell what I have? It'd be helpful to know. Help please.

Exciter570 you will have to pull everything apart if you want to know exactly
what you have and if Bender is anything like the other aftermarket shops the
helix will have their number stamped on it - not the angle number.

You have the spec sheet from Bender??? if so is it the same as the one listed in the tech section?? I will be rejetting my 800 this weekend and installing a tempaflow I picked up from Lokn4sno, I dont really now a whole lot about jetting so I am going to start with 145's??

Looked for the spec sheet in the Tech tips section but couldn't find it to look at, so I don't know if it is the same sheet or not. I do have the sheet, however, it is up north with the sleds, otherwise I would just refer to it and let you know what is has listed. 145's do sound right if I recall the sheet correctly, but I can't be sure without referencing to the sheet. I'll be up north again after the holidays and if you haven't done anything by then I'd be happy to get you the info off of my spec sheet.

540, yeah, that's the same spec sheet that I have. The numbers should be the same since they are both 800's. Once I get my spec sheet after the holiday I'll double check it.
Yammigod,.. now that you have taken a look at what the bender set up is, what would you reccomend based on those numbers? I'd like to get my sled properly set up. I do trail/lake riding.

CHRIS, FIRST LOOKING AT THIS SPEC SHEET, ITS AS BAD AS PSI,s WHEN THE 800 BLASTERS WERE OUT. MAYBE IN ALL FAIRNESS NOT ENOUGH TESTING WAS DONE, BUT ANYWAYS LET ME FIRST SAY RUN GOOD PREM GAS. ESPECIALLY WHERE I KNOW YOU BUY YOUR GAS, I BELIEVE YOU MAY BE ASKING FOR TROUBLE. GAS THERE SUCKS. DUDE, CARRY A CAN OF OCTANE BOOSTER WITH YA OR TAKE JETTING UP A FEW SIZES.
NOW. CALL HAUCK GET HIS BLUE PRIMARY. YOU WILL HAVE NO BIND ISSUES BECAUSE ITS A 800. ADD 1 SHIM ALSO. NO LOWER THAN 4500 ENGAGEMENT. NOW YOU CAN RUN STOCK WEIGHTS WHICH 8BU-10,s, AND ARE PROBLEY BETTER THAN 8BU-00 ,s FOR ALL-AROUND USE. GET A 49-43 HELIX, SET SECONDARY TWIST AT 1-9 @ 100 DEGREE. NOW REMEBER YOU NEED TO RUN AT 8800-9000 RPM. HANG ON TITE IF YOU RUN THIS. THIS SET-UP WILL DESTROY THAT BENDER SPEC SHEET SET-UP BY 10 SLEDS. AND IF YA DECIDE TO GET SEROUIS, YOU CAN GO TO 8BU-00,s!! 3:16 (tony)

Would doing this require any re-jetting? Just want to have all my bases covered when I do this. Also, where can I get a49-43 helix, does anyone still stock them or should I start looking on ebay?

DUDE, THE JETTING TIP HAS NOTHING TO DOO WITH THE CLUTCH SET-UP I GAVE YA. I KNOW YOU RIDE ALOT UP NORTH IN THE OLD FORGE AREA, ALL I AM SAYING. AS FARR AS THAT HELIX. I MYSELF HAVE HAD GREAT LUCK WITH MICRO BELMONT HELIX,s. ALSP CHEAPER THAN MOST OF THE BIG YAMAHA SHOPS. I BELIEVE THEIR RIGHT AROUND $78.00!! I HAVE NUMBER IF YA NEED IT. DUDE, YOUR VERY CLOSE TO HAVEING A GREAT SET-UP ON YOUR 800, ALL YA NEED IS A SPRING AND HELIX!! 3:16 (tony)

CLOSEST THEY HAVE TO WHAT I WANT YA TO RUN IS A 48-42. NOW ALL THE TESTING I DID THE 49-43 WORKED THE BEST IN THE FAST TRAIL KIT. I WOULD CALL AND DOUBLE CHECK. 1-616-534-9681. HOW BIG A DEFFERENCE WOULD THAT MAKE ? PROBLEY ALITTLE. PUT STILL WAY BETTER THAN THAT SPEC SHEET. ANOTHER PLACE IS DALTON INDUSTRIES. ! 3:16 (tony)

I would go with the bender specs....100 degrees twist is over kill...I run a dalton 48/36 with psi quads and they have way more torque and run lower rpm than benders.....even on the grass,80 degrees is enough twist.

CHRIS, JUST DO WHAT I TELL YA!! YOU WILL BE SMACK DEAD ON WITH PROBLEY VERY LITTLE FINE TUNEING !! AND IF YOU RUN TO HIGH A RPM AT 1-9 TWIST, ITS SIMPLE TO BACK SECONDARY OFF. !! 3:16 (tony)

HUGH, lol!!!! HOW CAN YOU SAY RUN THOSE BENDER SPEC,s !! WHY DON,T YOU POST A SET-UP HERE FOR CHRIS TO TRY VS MINE !! BETTER YET, I, LL TRY YOUR SET-UP AGAINST MINE. NO BASH HERE, IF YOU GOT SOMETHING TO OFFER, LETS HEAR IT. BUT THAT BENDER SET-UP RUNNING YOUR SECONDARY AT 60 DEGREE WHEN 50 IS STOCK FOR 8350 !! OH, AND 100 DEGREE IS OVERKILL, BUT THREE SHIMS IN THE PRIMARY AIN,T PUSHING IT!!3:16 (tony)

3:16, do you have any experience with Pioneer Performance, I found a 49-43 helix on their site, $85 bucks. They also have a blue spring available on their site as well, are all blue springs the same or is Hauck's considered the best? One more question, what happens to the top end with this set up, does it stay the same, go up, or does it drop? Thanks for all the info, can't wait to get this set up running!!
YAMMIEGOD 3:16
12-08-2005, 11:32 AM
DUDE, PIONEER PERFORMANCE IS RUN BY BRUCE SCHRADDER. YOU WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM BUYING THAT HELIX FROM THEM. THE SPRING IS PROBLEY DEFFERNT, BUT YOU CAN,T TELL FOR SHURE UNLESS YOU COMPARE. (rate, total force, dia of wire to the hauck) I HAVE THESE SPEC,s IF YA CAN TELL ME THE PIONEER SPRING SPEC,s. NOW TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION ABOUT TOP END, IT SHOULD BE GREAT AS LONG AS GEARING HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED. MY GUESS IS THAT SLED SPENT ALOT OF ITS LIFE ON THE LAKES AT OLD FORGE, SO JUST BASISLY TRYING TO INPROVE ON THE BENDER SPEC,S IS WHAT WERE DOING. AND I KNOW I CAN. DUDE, WHEN I BOUGHT MY PSI BLASTERS, IT WAS SAME STORIE ON THEIR SPEC SHHET, VERY MILD CLUTCH SET-UP, THROUGH TESTING, I FOUND A WAY BETTER SET-UP. YOU CAN ALWAYS MAKE CHANGES, BUT NOTHING HERE THAT I WANT YA TO RUN IS GONNA HURT YA. 3:16 (tony)

Thanks 3:16! here is the spring specs from Pioneer Performance
Pre-load = 52.5 kg
Rate(kg/mm) = 2.21
Total force (kg) = 125
Color = Blue
Price = $15.95
"These primary springs are made from high quality chrome silicon wire. The pre-load of each spring is higher than any of the O.E.M. springs, resulting in a higher engagement RPM. The rate of each spring is lower than the springs that come stock in the performance models (SX Viper, SRX), giving them a more aggressive up-shift. Each spring is designed for the tall cover Yamaha primary clutch (SX Viper, SX-R, SRX, etc.). " quoted from Pioneers website.
You're right about the sled, it spent it's life on the lakes/trails in Old Forge, I believe it was Big Moose's shoot out sled in 1997, it has their typical windshield stickers on it for the shoot out sleds they run and the tag on the key chain said "shootout" on it. Then I guess another guy bought it from Big Moose after the shoot out was done and rode it for a season or two then moved to florida and left it in storage at Big Moose and the guys storage bill got so high that he just told Jack to sell it, so Jack decided to keep it for himself until I called him up (thanks to your tip) and gave Jack his asking price. Any how the sled is now sitting at my folks' house in Webster till I get it up North after the holiday's.

Yeah, I was extremely close to buying a '96 V4 that was out in the Midwest, the guy just wanted too much for it , woulda bought it but shipping was a killer from way out there but then you told me about the '97 that Jack had and that's what I really wanted anyways!. Anyhow, yeah, I do mean Webster, NY. My folks live on Woodard Rd. it's right near the Webster golf club between Salt Rd and Basket Rd. I would def meet up with ya to get it set up, it's a short 1.5 hour drive from Buffalo, let me know... I just gotta get the parts first.

Too funny, you're right around the corner from the sled! Yeah I am serious about doing this set up, I dont want to be beaten on the lakes this season and I want to make sure that no F7s or REVs are gonna be passing me up when I've got my throttle pinned. I can def meet ya up in webster, only thing is, I'd rather do it before Christmas as the sled will be going up to OF one of these upcoming weekends. I'm still dependent on using my dad's trailer to get my sled up there, so when he decides he's bringin the sleds up there, that's when mine is going too, it sucks not having my own trailer. My folks' house is right on the golf course, if there's snow it would be a perfect place to go out and do some test runs!

Sounds great! Looking at the calendar I am thinking probably on the 18th. I am gonna try to get my dad to bring the sled out to Stone's to get pre-seasoned so the sled is ready to ride (it's been sitting for a long time and I'm sure the carbs are filthy and the rear suspension needs some minor work) so if the sled goes to stones this weekend it should hopefully be done by the 17th, we could meet up on the 18th and try out your set up!
